APRIL 16 LAST HANDICAP RACE FOR SPRINT CARS UNTIL MAY
21
MECHANICSBURG, PA -- The 358 c.i. sprints will join the sprint cars at
Williams Grove Speedway on Friday evening, April 16, and the speedway’s
handicapping system will be in effect for both divisions.
While the Grove’s sprint car class has been competing under the
handicapping system since April 2, this will be the first week that the
358s will be handicapped after using a draw to set lineups on March 19
and April 2.
Friday will mark the last time the sprint car teams will be handicapped
until May 21, with no less than five consecutive special races scheduled
for the speedway’s premier division.
All five special events will use time trials to set the lineups.
The first time trial race of the season will honor the memory of the
legendary Flyin’ Dutchman, Tommy Hinnershitz, with the running of the
Tommy Classic on April 23.
The 30-lap sprint car feature will pay $6000 to win from a total purse
of $30,000.
The vintage cars of EMMR will also be part of the April 23 program.
The Tommy Classic will give the Williams Grove regulars an opportunity
to test themselves against the clock before the season’s first visit by
the All Star regulars on April 30.
On May 7, the season’s first Outlaw Tuneup will be presented.
With the World of Outlaws scheduled to sanction a two-day program on May
13-14, the Outlaw Tuneup will follow a similar format to allow the local
competitors a chance to race under World of Outlaws procedures a week
before the touring professionals come to town.
The Tommy Classic, the All Star date and the Outlaw Tuneup will be part
of the Goodyear sponsored Diamond Series and will also carry points
towards the Lawrence Chevrolet track championship.
