SATURDAY NIGHT SERIES FEATURES 3 OPEN
WHEEL DIVISIONS MAY 8
MECHANICSBURG, PA -- Following a three-week break the Saturday Night Series
will return to Williams Grove Speedway on May 8 with a rare open wheel triple
header.
The super sportsman cars will be the headline attraction as usual, but this
week they will share the pit area with the ARDC midgets and the 305-sprints.
A street stock feature has also been added to the May 8 program.
The sportsman teams should be out in force after being idle at Williams
Grove for three weeks. Rain wiped out the April 24 event and no racing was
scheduled on May 1.
Paul Miller won the sportsman opener on April 10. Russ Mitten, who
finished second to Miller, came back to win the sportsman feature a week later.
Both Miller and Mitten are expected to be in competition this week along
with Frankie Herr, Carmen Perigo, Rich Eichelberger, Chad Criswell and at least
two dozen others in this highly competitive division.
The ARDC midgets will be making their first of two Saturday night starts at
Williams Grove this season. They will return on Topless Night, July 10.
The non-wing midgets produced 34 cars and some exciting racing in their
only scheduled Friday night appearance at Williams Grove on April 30. The
Royersford Rocket, Steve Buckwalter, a weekly competitor in the Grove’s sprint
car division, used his experience to score an impressive victory in the midget
feature.
The 305-sprints raced at Williams Grove on April 17 and Harrisonville’s
Mike Wagner II bested a 19-car field.
Following this week’s program the Saturday Night Series will return on May
22 when the sportsman cars will be joined by the 358-late models, street stocks
and 4-cylinder stock cars.
