KEYSTONE CUP SERIES EVENT AT WILLIAMS
GROVE MAY 28
MECHANICSBURG, PA -- Williams Grove Speedway will host the third leg of the
fourth annual Keystone Cup Series for sprint cars on Friday evening, May 28.
Qualifying is scheduled to begin at 7:45.
The winner of the 30-lap feature will earn $5000.
The Keystone Cup Series was begun in 2007 and previous champions include
Fred Rahmer in `07 and `08 and Stevie Smith in 2009.
This year’s race for the Keystone Cup involves events at six regional dirt
tracks. Other participating venues in addition to Williams Grove include
Grandview, Hagerstown, Lincoln, Selinsgrove and Port Royal Speedways.
The May 28 date at Williams Grove is also part of the Goodyear Diamond
Series, which consists of ten designated races at Williams Grove with winners’
shares ranging between $3000 and $10,000.
Previous Diamond Series events this season include the Tommy Classic on
April 6, which was won by Chad Layton, the All Star race on April 30 won by
Lance Dewease, and the Outlaw Tuneup on May 7 won by Greg Hodnett.
Consistency has earned Stevie Smith the Diamond Series point lead. The
Broken Arrow, Oklahoma resident has scored two second place finishes and one
fourth after the first three races in this year’s Diamond Series.
This week’s program will begin with time trials, which have been used to
set lineups on five occasions this year. Brian Leppo has two Fast Tees Fast
Time awards, which are worth $300 apiece. Other fast qualifiers in 2010 include
Brian Montieth, Chad Layton and Joey Saldana, who turned the quickest lap of the
season at 16.364 on May 13.
The next Diamond Series date will be the All Star-sanctioned event set for
June 11.
