OUTLAWS RETURN FOR SUMMER NATIONALS JULY 23-24
MECHANICSBURG, PA -- The Summer Nationals, a two-day event for sprint cars
sanctioned by the World of Outlaws, is coming to Williams Grove Speedway on
Friday and Saturday evenings, July 23-24.
Qualifying is scheduled to begin at 7:45 each night and both programs will
also include fireworks displays.
The Saturday night Summer Nationals finale will be worth $20,000 to win.
The Outlaws will bring a strong contingent of travelers to Williams Grove
and they will be intent on snapping a six-race losing streak against the
Williams Grove regulars known as the Pennsylvania Posse.
The last Outlaw driver to win a sanctioned race at Williams Grove was
Fargo, ND’s Donny Schatz, who scored a victory in the Summer Nationals two years
ago on July 19, 2008.
The Grove’s current Lawrence Chevrolet point leader, Greg Hodnett, won
three World of Outlaws races at this speedway in 2009 and Red Lion’s Cody Darrah
won the fourth.
Chad Layton of Harrisburg and Salfordville’s Fred Rahmer split the two WoO
races run at Williams Grove earlier this season.
In addition to Schatz, other former Summer Nationals champions Steve Kinser
of Bloomington, Ind., and Sammy Swindell of Germantown, Tenn., will be among the
Outlaw contingent.
Three young Outlaws have had impressive showings at Williams Grove this
season.
Lucas Wolfe of Mechanicsburg, won an unsanctioned race at his former home
track in March.
Kraig Kinser of Bloomington, Ind., and Sam Hafertepe, Jr., of Sunnyvale,
Tex., each were in contention for victories during the spring shootout. K.
Kinser and Layton swapped the lead several times on May 13 before Layton
prevailed. Hafertepe finished second to Rahmer on May 14.
The Summer Nationals will be the last appearance by the Outlaws at Williams
Grove before National Open weekend, October 1-2.
