TWIN 20s FOR SPORTSMAN CARS AUGUST 14 AT WILLIAMS GROVE
MECHANICSBURG, PA -- With twin 20-lap features on the agenda, Saturday
evening, August 14, will be the richest night of the season at Williams Grove
Speedway for the super sportsman division.
Also on the card will be 358 c.i. late models, street stocks and
4-cylinder stock cars.
The first heat is scheduled to start at 6:30.
Two local sportsman racers will have an opportunity to make history during
the course of the twin 20s and become the division’s career win leader at
Williams Grove.
One of sportsman racing’s all-time greats, Larry Jackson, had been the
speedway’s career win leader for some time. Jackson notched twelve Williams
Grove sportsman victories before retiring from the sport several years ago.
When Dillsburg’s Rich Eichelberger won the sportsman feature on May 29 he
tied Jackson’s career total.
Since that time Carlisle’s Frankie Herr, who started the season with ten
career victories, has won twice, creating a 3-way tie atop the sportsman
winner’s list.
That tie could very well be broken this week.
Both Eichelberger and Herr have won in impressive fashion this year,
because both are masters at passing cars.
Each of Herr’s victories came from the eleventh starting position.
Eichelberger started 13th on the night he scored his lone victory of the
season. No other driver has come from beyond the sixth row to win a sportsman
feature at the Grove this year.
Eichelberger and Herr have plenty of competition this week from other 2010
winners including Russ Mitten, Paul Miller, Scott Dellinger, Bobby Hockenberry,
Carmen Perigo and Aaron Eichelberger.
