State to replace 2 bridges on Williams Grove Road
by The Patriot-News Friday February 08, 2008, 10:02 AM
Prep work is under way for replacement of two bridges on Williams Grove Road that could affect nearly 5,800 vehicles daily.

One bridge is over the Yellow Breeches Creek between Monroe Twp., Cumberland County, and Carroll Twp., York County, and the other spans Dogwood Run in Monroe Twp., the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced

Because of a new alignment planned for the existing road, traffic will be maintained on the road throughout the project, according to PennDOT. The project is expected to be finished in May 2010.

The existing three-span bridge over the Yellow Breeches Creek, built in 1941, is 153 feet long with a roadway width of 22.3 feet. The new three-span structure will be 200 feet long with a roadway width of 44 feet, according to PennDOT.

The Dogwood Run bridge, also built in 1941, has a weight restriction of 32 tons. It is a reinforced concrete slab measuring 20 feet in length and width. The new bridge will be a frame culvert 14 feet in length and 44 feet wide.

Susquehanna Valley Construction Co. of New Cumberland was contracted by PennDOT to do the project for $3.2 million. Since the Yellow Breeches Creek is classified as a cold water fishery, the contract includes provisions that prohibits the contractor from disturbing the creek between March 1 and June 15 each year.

Stew, do you pay tolls at the turnpike bridge? And it will be nice to see a new bridge at the Breeches, had a classmate killed at that bridge :(
