Question for Ed C. on a Penalty Given on Friday Night.

This past friday night Chad was penalized and put to the rear for the lap 22 restart in the feature.During the red flag stop, he was told by an official that he had one too many crew members working on the car. thus the penalty. The rulebook clearly states that " During an OPEN stop approximately five (5) crewmembers are permitted onto the track, at their car, for refueling or adjusting purposes." " I realize rules are rules and need to be fairly enforced , but by Williams Grove using the word "approximately " in the tracks wording of the rule, I feel that Chad and his team were unfairly penalized which caused the team to lose several valuable points. I guess I am asking you more for your opinion (and anyone else's) more than I am asking you a question. Thanks in advance.

I was approached by one of Chad's crew members about the penalty after the race. While I have nothing to do with what takes place on the track, I did report what happened to management.

I read the rule you mentioned. In my opinion, the word "approximately" should not be there and I will suggest that it be removed in subsequent revisions.

I sent Justin an email and he just responded. He agrees and will change the rule to read "up to five."

So in the meantime, sorry about your luck Chad, because apparently we are unable to write an unambiguous rule.

Speaking of rules.. What's the latest on the tire doping 'issue'?

Protest the next win & have the tires sent out to be tested. That is an issue that can be found if true. Why is it when someone is just a tad faster than the rest they are immediately cheating?

That response seems reserved for those with a Guilty conscious though..

I also hear scuttlebutt of other rules being rewritten as well.
