I think after watching the heats at the Grove the last few years its time to start running 8 lap heats.....Just my opinion.... Outlaws run them, Port runs them with usually 8 cars in a heat i think the Grove should look into this.....Haven't seen a good heat in years.......

Let's see....[(2 less laps at 18 seconds a lap= 36 seconds) times 3 heats]....about a 108 seonds less racing.

No thanks. I like 10 lap heats.

If you've got 10 or less cars why not an 8 lap heat race. Saves the teams some fuel and wear on the motor and a Right Rear. An 7, 8 or 9 car heat race is usually decided in the first 5 laps in most cases.

Agreed should be 8 laps unless 10 or more cars in a heat.

Yeah love watching them run 10 when they're all strung out by lap 4 single file.

I support 10 lap heats because it gives teams with a bad draw more time to make up some positions and give some better racing.

 It's not gonna be like that every week. That's the problem today. If someone don't like something we change it. Phooie.

The only time I see it fit to run 8 lap heats are for the "circus" tune-ups. Otherwise stick with what works. :cheers2: JMO..of course

Exactly! That extra 2 laps is sometimes the difference in a guy making it up to 4th and into the invert(or draw) or not.

Is there anything that people won't b!tch about? If the teams are OK with 10 lap heats then just leave it alone. Most of the time they are decided in the 1st 5 laps but as several other said, sometimes that extra couple of laps allows a driver to sneak into an invert position. For us fans its an extra couple of laps of seeing sprint cars racing at full speed. What's so bad about that?

How about we finally make it fair for all the teams and make it 7 lap heats lined up by a pill draw ( eliminates the "non regular" cars disadvantages) with 2 heats per car with a full invert second heat for each car, then line up the feature from a passing points matrix from the heats..

It's simple.. and fair and can finally replace the unfair pill draw/time trial formats !

95% of all the heat race action / passing is in the first 3-5 laps anyway !

Teams that get a crappy pill and start rear in the first then start at the front in the second so there is no need to drag out the racing with the last 5 laps of each heat turning into glorified hotlaps !
