How bout a little bit of everything...points, handicapping, tow money, testing the hand. I'm sure he came out in the B in case not enough cars reported and could transfer to the feature for start money, points.

I'm thinking testing the hand was the last thing on the list. Putting around to take the green was not much of a test and I'm thinking a smart guy like Greg Hodnett knew beforehand if he would be able to go. And I definitely think he would know it wasn't ready for the consy if he couldn't run the heat race.

Owner's points probably were not a much of a consideration either, otherwise as somebody mentioned earlier, why not put an able driver in the seat?

As someone else mentioned, thats a lot of work getting the car there just to race for tow money. Pretty sure these guys have season pit passes already paid, but still...hauler fuel, race fuel, time & effort probably wouldn't be worth the tow money IMO. Now there could have been only a full field of cars showing up so you still can't be faulted for trying to make the race and the start money.

The handicapping thought seems to have the most validity and I'm thinking the reason for starting the consy after already getting credit for racing the heat was that if 3 cars failed to start or balled it up going into 1, they could take home a little more $ but still keep a pretty low $ average by starting the feature.

As a bonus, all of the sponsors got mentioned too.

I know the doctor told him no impact at all on the hand for at least 2 weeks even with cast. I believe it was for handicapping purposes.

i think all of those are reasons except tow money...there lossing money each week sure the 100 bucks or whatever it is helps but not compared to what they spend,maybe if the car counts dip a week or two and someone drops out maybe hell make the feature and get some more points
