Grove Safety

Post by Tig88 » Fri Jul 25, 2014 11:10 pm

This is not intended to bash the Grove, but bring up clear unsafe issues. During intermission the Grove was prepping the track. Now the Water truck was running clockwise at a very good pace(some may say fast as hell) laying down water. The Grader was running counter clockwise on the track. Now up in turns 3 & 4, a track official was standing on the grader as it was moving. Now what happened next was unbelievable. He steps off the grade and came with in a couple of feet of getting hit by the water truck. I wasn't the only one to watch this. Not to be out done, after the 358 feature a track prep truck come out of the infield down the track towards 3. All I hear was a lot of horn blowing as a tow truck was flying down the back stretch to leave. How much longer will this stupidity last before the unthinkable happens?

I saw the official jump out of the grader and was expecting the worst. Why run one truck backwards

I saw this grader incident out of the corner of my eye...he had white pants on and I was holding my breath hoping he was still on his feet after the truck sped by.

little off topic but did anyone see the wheel cover come off either i believe lance or schatz's car 2 weeks ago on the last or next to last lap coming out of turn 2? i've never personally seen one of those things come off but that thing was crazy..looked like frisbee taking off and seemed to gain height and speed as it flew out into the darkness of the back stretch parking lot

A wheel cover come flying into the stands at Port Saturday night....I heard it hit the seats behind the flag stand.....never saw it coming. I am not sure if it hit the plexi-glass at the starters stand and then deflected in or what.

Not a safe sport.....never will be....

I saw it happen also, watched Dewease and Schatz thru turns 1 & 2. Then followed the flying object with my eyes the entire time. Didnt see quite where it landed but it cleared the pit bleachers.

I've already been hit by a small bolt at Grandview a few months ago.

We were on the top row of the backstretch pit bleachers and that wheel cover was moving! it did gain speed and height when it flew right behind us, over the backstretch pits and into the tree area where there was campers and tents. that could have been an ugly scene.

Fonda Speedway in NY just recently outlawed the dzus-fastened wheel covers for this reason. I believe Glen Ridge and the RoC modified tour adopted the same rule.
