This Friday Night at Grove with Knoxville Nat. taking place?

Post by rrwj » Tue Aug 05, 2014 8:30 pm

With Knoxville Nationals taking place this weekend what will the Grove be like? Car count? Crowd? I will be staying near Williams Grove this weekend. We have big group going to Hershey Park and I want to take people to see sprint cars for first time. Just curious what the Grove is like when the Knoxville Nationals are taking place?

Hodnett, Wolfe, Dietrich, Stevie, and Marks are the PA drivers who are out in Knoxville for the weekend. I would assume everyone else who usually runs on Friday will be at the Grove.

Missing at most Hodnett, Dietrich and Marks I think. The Show will be there

May see Hodnett back because of leading points. Not sure though

Interesting. He runs Wednesday and the Friday show only locks in positions 17-20 for the Nationals. If he qualifies on Wednesday, he could run the Grove on Friday. Seems like an awful lot of travel though.

should be a quick night which can be good for some first time visitors... 358's might only need 2 heats races and 3 410 heats and a pair of features

Hodnett has traveled back and forth in the past i believe. Yeah we lose a couple regulars, but usually pick up a few guys too. Todd zinn and mark zimmerman come to mind. Think theyve showed up for this race the past couple years :dontknow:

The grove will still be the place to be :yessss:

Today and tomorrow look like washouts in Knoxville. 90% chance of rain tonight and 80% tomorrow. So, if any driver is trying to travel that will definitely throw a monkey wrench in there.

Still think this show should be changed back to a non-points show. JMO

Now that wouldn't be fair for the smaller teams that are dedicated to Williams Grove

and race as a hobby and can't afford to go on the road for a vacation to Knoxville.

They used to do it and it brought more cars with the draw format. Personally, I think it's pathetically low of Williams Grove to penalize teams for missing one night out of the whole year to race at the biggest sprint show in the world. We should be proud and supportive of them. You'd think WG would be above that. JMO

I go past Mark Zimmermans garage every week on the way to the Grove, danged detour, and the rig has not been moved all season.

I agree should not be a points race. Really think that some of the smaller teams may show up, but also take time away and do not run every Friday. I think we should be proud that some of our guys go off the porch to compete and represent our area. WG should appreciate these drivers as well as they do race there all the time and are recognized as WG participants.
