Why did 5G use Hodnett's #27 Wing?

Post by rrwj » Tue Aug 12, 2014 7:59 am

Just curious if there was particular reason the 5G had the 27 wing on this past Friday night.

Thanks.

Because he was running as the #27 for owners points while Greg and the #27 team were out in Knoxville.

 Heffner don't own the 5g.....just the wing it was using.....So how can they run a car not owned by Heffner for OWNER POINTS?

Ask the Grove...owners have been gaming K-Ville week for decades!

This is a direct result of WG running against the biggest Sprint Car race in the Country. If you have a good driver and a good car why would you stay and run a regular show at the Grove when you could potentially race for the biggest purse of the season in the most prestigious race. A large portion of the Sprint Car tracks in the country do not run against the Nationals.

Thanks,
Jeff.

So because theres a big race going on somewhere else, were supposed to just sit back and twiddle our thumbs? Most of our guys dont have the funding or the time to tow to knoxville. Friday night we were missing what, 3 regulars? I dont see the need to change things. Hodnett is very much still in the points race and has won it before after missing a race.

Just some of the ridiculousness of running a points race against the Nationals. I believe the point fund money is split up 50-50 between owner and driver points. Maybe if they would have had Curt wear Greg's driving suit, they could have got some driver points too. :laughing7:

I know if i owned a track that crap would not be allowed. If you want the owner points put someone in YOUR backup car( we know Heffner has one). Not your wing on another owners car. Makes no sense and kind of like cheating the system, and not fair to the other Owners who didn't go to Knoxville. I say this if it were any owner or team that does this. In the past guys like Al Hamilton would put someone else in a back up car not lend another team a wing and call their car his.

I can't figure that out either Slink. Makes no sense to me. If that is the case what does it mean when someone wrecks on a normal weekly race and they use someone else's top wing? Does that change and the car owner whose top wing is used get the pts no matter how far down the pts they are?

I was following along on Twitter and saw that it was Curt Michael listed in the 27 and figured "Ah, Heffner gave him Greg's backup car to use." Then I watched the race highlights and thought, "Now how in the hell does that work? You just throw a top wing on the car and it 'yours' for owners points." Interesting. Is there a rule in the rulebook pertaining to how you score owners points?

By that same logic Montieth and the 21 team shouldn't get the owners points when they run the #69 top wing as a tribute, right? (I know its a different track. I'm being facetious, work with me here.)

Happened a few years ago with Lance too if I remember correctly. He flew back from Knoxville to run Friday night at WG. It was Erdley's car, but they threw a 30C top wing on it so Lance and that team could get both the owner and driver points for the night.
