Thoughts on new 8:00 start time

Post by luvracing » Fri Jun 24, 2016 10:52 am

Wondering what others thought of the new start time this year at WG. I have to travel quite a ways to make shows each Friday and do not see that the shows are moving along any faster. I have stopped coming as much since the chance and noticed others in our area as well have backed off. Getting home at 1 in the morning as a spectator seems crazy. I do not see any more drivers showing up as a result of the change and when we have fireworks and other events it makes the night even longer. I have been there early and see 98 % of the drivers already there. It makes no sense at this point. My thoughts only, but what do others think. I have just started to go to Lincoln more as it I get home earlier than on a Friday night. Maybe they can reconsider the start time for 2017.

The getting home late does suck, but I think it has made it easier for teams to not rush around after work to get there and has made for a much better track this year. Racing has been some of the best I've seen there, but that's just my opinion.

Didn't they always used to start at 8:PM on Fridays?

8:00pm is great that's much better for all the fans who have hours or more to drive, it even helps me & I only have 1 hour drive but that gives time for the Harrisburg traffic to thin out before I get there.

Not to thrilled as I have over an hour drive . For me getting there is great but the ride home and getting up @ 4:00am is not pleasant.

It's a trade off. It's easier for folks to get there on a weekday by starting at 8:00. It's also way easier for the folks doing the track prep in that they won't have to worry about racing with the sun out.

There is the negative side in the racing won't get done no earlier than 10:30 - 11:00. Makes it kinda tough if you want to bring younger kids with you. I see both sides to it and why they would want to move the times back.

:thehand: Most of if not all of the TT shows do start at 7:30. Look at the schedule before you speak. Does a half hour later start time really make that big a difference? It's's only a half hour for christs sake. It's not the tracks fault you have to get up at 4 am, and decided to go to the races. That is your poor judgement call. That's like blaming Burger King you're fat.

The 8:00 start time didn't help the track crew last night. The biggest race of the week supposedly and the worst race because of a horrible racetrack. Why can't there be a cushion. At least a one groove track around the top allows for sliders if someone gets a good run. A one groove track around the bottom sucks and last night sucked. This will probably get deleted but that is because the grove doesn't want to hear the truth. There were very many disgusted fans last night that felt it was a waste of their money. The grove should sell their backstretch bleachers to port royal. They seem to know how to put fans in them by putting on a good show.

Many years it was 8 PM. Last few 7:30. TT have been earlier some years/events.

This year? With smaller fields there have been 2-3 heats and right to the feature. I'm lucky as I live minutes from the track. First few weeks I was home by 9:30. Not that long ago, with full fields in 2 divisions, checked for the 410's at 10:30, 358's by 11 was common. Way back in the day getting home by midnight was rare. With 40 years of WG experience, living close to the track most of that time, I'd say the pace of the show has gotten quicker.

No complaints here, WG typically moves the show along. Anyone at the USAC SC race saw what 'dicking' around is all about.

All that said, I liked the 7:30 start.

They used to start at 8:30 many years ago...when it was a buck fifty to get in... :cheers2: I live 15 minutes from the track, but have only been there once in the last 3 years...so...

Another area track moves their start to a later time in the heat of the summer to keep the cars off the track longer until the sun is about off the track....keeps the surface a bit more moist I would suspect.
