East Bay Tuesday PHOTOS Posted

Post by racephoto » Thu Feb 10, 2011 10:30 pm

I have posted some photos from Tuesday at the Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park in Gibsonton, FL. These are images from both the pits and on the track. Additional images will be posted as I have the opportunity to complete the editing. With doubleheaders now being scheduled for both Friday and Saturday, the going will be slow.

To view additional images, use the link below then click on the gallery you wish to view. NOTE: It will take a few clicks to get into the gallery as it is set up for entire week.

I think most would look better if they didn't look like they were going uphill  . You have to tilt your head to look at them

I understand what you are saying but not everyone holds your opinion on photo layout/design.

Single race car shots are diffucult to apply the more common "rule of thirds" when finalizing the crop. These images can be more easily set up using the "Golden Rule" (an application of the Fibonacci Sequence). The concept here is to create a visualization that is pleasing to the brain as it interprets what we see. These theories are as important as understanding that most people visually interpret from left to right and also from top to bottom.

Sometimes I shoot using "creative angles" and other times just the final crop is aligned that way. About 10% to 15% of my images might be "on a tilt" as you say. However, well over 30% of what clients order are "on a tilt" and that percentage has risen steadily over the last three years. So, as I mentioned, not everyone shares your preference with respect to image layout/design.

Some of my galleries have very few "uphill" or "downhill" images and other galleries have quite a few. Those galleries with a mix of layout styles consistantly have a higher number of "clicks" and the "on a tilt" images consistantly rank near the top in their respective galleries.

Again, I understand your perspective and many people feel exactly the same as you do about breaking tradition. And that's OK too!

Personnally, I feel shooting racing action, whether single cars or two wide in Turn 2, is pretty much like shooting the same car(s) only with different numbers on them unless I am trying to mix in new interpretations.

Just trying to present a little insight as to why my images look the way they do,
Joe
