Daytona prototypes at NJMP

Post by Mike Zortman » Sun May 03, 2009 11:35 am

Watch the race on SPEED at 1:00 pm Sunday live from the New Jersey Motorsports Park. With all the rain it will be interesting... I had fun Saturday shooting these during practice/qualifying, but standing in the rain all day Sunday doesn't sound like much fun to me. I opted for a dry couch and a TV remote. I'll be watching!

Very nice work. Did you have a press pass or were you shooting from spectator viewing areas?

I shot these from the spectator viewing area. The track is different from last year as they eliminated a trouble spot. There was a fast downhill right hand turn that saw alot of cars slide off the track and then come back across the track and collect other cars. They have installed a "Chicane" where that turn was and the racing is now MUCH better. I shot these from the new chicane area. You should have a step ladder depending on how tall you are in order to clear the chain link fence and a long lens if you plan to shoot there. These were shot with a 300mm lens on a full frame camera and cropped. There isn't many great angles, but I thought this was the best one. It was my third trip there and I like it, but wish there were more areas to shoot from. You can get some nice shots there, but it's not the easiest place to photograph. The cars are phenomenal! Bicknell55 was there too, maybe he found some better spots...

Thanks for the info Mike. I'm hoping to get up for the Vintage Show later in the year.

Mike, you should have came today. You could have held the umbrella for me. It isn't easy trying to pan with the umbrella under your arm. I'll try to get some stuff up tomorrow, it was a long weekend between NJMP by day and New Egypt at night. I did find some better places to shoot from after walking around the outside of the track on Sunday morning. Unfortunately the rain kinda put a damper on me getting to all the places I wanted to.
