Grand Prix of Baltimore 2012

Post by Bicknell55 » Wed Sep 19, 2012 11:27 pm

Not my best work but I'm satisfied with it being my first ALMS/IndyCar event with credentials.

7 - Too much blur/distortion? I'm not sure if I really like this one or not.

i drove some of those streets in august when i went to the convention center. first it was weird driving with concrete barriers and catch fence along side me. secondly i can not believe they can race on the streets as bumpy as they are.
My OPINIONS are just that and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of anyone or any track I am associated with!

They had issues with going straight over the lightrail tracks resulting in cars getting ~6"-12" of air which prompted the return of the chicane from last year.

Brent, I haven't been on in awhile but want to share some comments/thoughts about your Baltimore gallery. You have a total grasp of what motorsports photojournalism is about. Your images captured the essence of the event and elicited the sense of speed. The galleries were a pleasure to view because it was not like looking at exactly the same picture of a hundred different cars. The variety of shooting locations and use of different lenses along with the time you invested in putting this all together bodes well in telling the story of the event with images. Kudos for a well done effort!

Some of my favorites were:
Gallery 1 - GPB_31AUG12-0393 (several airborne shots from the backside here - good eye)
Gallery 1 - showed a great variety of compositions including one with a tall ship in the background - too bad the stands were not full on day 1
Gallery 2 - GPB_01SEP12-0194 nice work shooting/panning through scaffolding and trees and a mix of backgrounds including Camden Yards
Gallery 3 - just a great selection of different cityscape backgrounds

It looks like you carefully selected 400+ images from the weekend to tell your story and you did it well.

I get so tired of looking at galleries that are just dumped from the camera to some online hosting spot without any checking or editing at all. That is NOT photography! It is more like just taking pictures. The same goes for those who must be wearing concrete boots because they stand/shoot from the same spot all night long, week after week after week! So be it though as it seems to be the trending thing to do! Why are there so many images of cars doing a hundred miles an hour and you can still clearly read the tire lettering? Yes, I do understand the flash duration over shutter speed conflict!

Anyway, I wanted to pass along my kudos for a job well done! (sure wish I could convince you to water mark your images in the middle though!)

Thanks Joe. I'd really like to do more IndyCar/ALMS/Grand-Am events from inside the fence in the future but that's going to be a challenge. If you're at Mid Ohio again next year let me know and we can try to find a minute to say hello.
