7 features fill night at Path Valley By Rob Keller
Five scheduled classes and two make-up features provided plenty of racing action for the fans attending Path Valley Speedway Saturday night, along with full fields in both the 270cc and 600cc Micro Sprints.
The Mini Stock make-up feature got the night started and Matt Williamson led all twenty laps for his first win in 2012 and second in his career. Rusty Garlock was close behind until he had to pit with an overheating engine with two laps to go. David Bookwalter finished second.
Timmie Barrick dominated the 600cc Micro Sprint make-up feature. Barrick started on the pole, led all twenty laps, and was leading Kameron Morral by six car lengths at the finish. Kenny Edkin, Mike Rynard, and Alex Potosky finished third thru fifth, respectively.
Tom Crum started second in the 4-Cylinder Thunder Car feature and grabbed the lead on the first lap. While Crum was leading, Raymond Middaugh started last in the six car field and was working his way towards the front. Middaugh caught Crum and made the winning pass on lap seven. Justin Rasp was close behind the entire way, but had to settle for second. Crum held on to third, ahead of Kyle Martin and Dalton McQuade. Middaugh also won the heat race.
The 270cc Micro Sprint feature was decided on a restart on lap twelve. Colby Dice had been leading since the drop of the green and pulling away from Brian Marriott after each of the previous three restarts. On the lap twelve restart Marriott got on the throttle just a moment before Dice and was able to pull to the inside and take the lead he would never relinquish. Dice stayed close the remaining laps, but could not recapture the lead and finished second. Chad Myers had the best view of the lead battle, running a close third all the way. Daryl Beakler got shuffled back on a restart but stormed back to finish fourth while Dane Tobias finished fifth. Marriott, Dice, and Myers were the heat race winners.
Tyler Bear is two-for-two at Path Valley in 2012 after winning the PA Sprint Series 305 Sprint Car feature. Bear started first and was leading by a few seconds until he had to slow when he caught the back end of the field. Ryan Lynn closed in, even getting beside Bear on one occasion. After the final restart on lap seventeen, Bear powered away to win by several car lengths over Lynn. Tim Dietz made the biggest move, starting eighth and finishing third. Marcus Defreitas finished fourth and Scott Ellerman fifth. Heat race wins went to Bear and Lynn.
Kameron Morral started first in the 600cc Micro Sprint feature and looked poised to step up one spot from his second place earlier in the night. Tyler Walton was not far behind, running second, and three caution periods gave Walton time to make adjustments to improve his handling. On lap thirteen Walton got inside Morral going down the front-stretch and completed the winning pass in turn one. Walton kept Morral about two car lengths behind the rest of the way for the win. Garrett Bard had one of his strongest showings in his young career with a solid third place finish. Chase Dietz finished fourth and David Holbrook fifth. Kenny Edkin, Brock Zearfoss, and Dietz took heat race checkers.
Troy Rhone was the only 600cc Stock Micro Sprint signed in, giving him the win.
In the final feature, Ronnie Garlock took the lead from Travis Semple on lap two and held off Matt Williamson after a restart with six laps remaining to capture the Mini Stock win. Myachia Bookwalter finished third, ahead of Barry Welch and Semple. Garlock also won the heat race.
