Bonebrake wins again at Path Valley

Wes Bonebrake is putting the final touches on another championship season, which will be his third in a row at Path Valley Speedway. After struggling for a short stretch in the middle of the summer, Bonebrake has come back strong in September, scoring several victories.

D.J. Keefer got a late start to the 2014 racing season, but has made the most of the races he has run. In the 4-Cylinder Thunder Car racing Friday night Keefer won the heat race and then led all twenty laps to claim the feature win. Charlie Stallman took second from Kyle Martin near the halfway point, but by then Keefer was nearly a half lap ahead and there was no catching him. Martin held on to finish third and Rayshawna Hardy was fourth.

Bill Powell must have liked the way Keefer's night went, as he followed suit in the Super Stocks, winning his heat race and then leading all twenty laps to win the feature. Powell started on the pole and was never challenged, leading by half a lap at the finish and putting everyone up to fifth place a lap down. Troy Eckenrode ran second until giving up the spot to Brad McGinnis and then Austin Johnson cleared Eckenrode for third just past the mid-point of the race. Johnson closed in on McGinnis in the closing laps, but could not find room to pass and settled for third. Eckenrode finished fourth and Deron Henry fifth. Eckenrode also won his heat race.

In the Late Model ranks Wes Bonebrake tried to follow the pattern of the previous two winners, but could not quite pull it off. Bonebrake got beat at the drop of the green and Stephen Nederostek led the first lap. Bonebrake came back to get the top spot on lap two and was gone after that. Bob Dunn was running second when he got caught behind a lapped car, costing him about seven spots before he was able to get clear. The battle for positions two through five was back and forth the last half of the non-stop twenty-five laps. At the finish it was Brian Booze in second, followed by Brad Kling, Sean Merkel, and Nederostek. Heat race wins went to Nederostek, Bonebrake, and Dunn.

Tim Snare, Jr. went for a nasty ride in a heat race in his Late Model. Snare made contact with Dave Dunkle as the pair exited turn two. Snare's car went sideways and up on two wheels before barrel-rolling 4-1/2 times. Snare exited the car under his own power and is reported to have only suffered a mild concussion.

In the Mini Stock feature Lyle Barnes led the first lap and then Korey Washinger took the top spot on lap two. Washinger led for two laps until Chris Anderson led at the line on lap four. Washinger was again out front when they crossed the line on lap five, but Anderson regained the lead on lap six and led the last fifteen laps to score the win. Washinger was still running second when his engine failed just past halfway, literally ending his night in a huge cloud of smoke. Mark Grove took over the runner-up spot, but could not keep pace with Anderson, trailing by four car lengths at the finish. Barnes finished third, followed by Bill Kennedy and Steve Yeager. Grove was the heat race winner.

Garrett Watkins took the lead at the start of the Strictly Stock feature and was able to keep the top spot for the first nine laps. It took Ricky Weaver a few laps to get into second place, but once clear he began to chase down the leader. As the field took the crossed flags for the halfway sign on lap ten Weaver drove past Watkins and into the lead. Weaver drove away after that, leading by nearly half of a lap when the checkered flag waved. It was the first win for Weaver at Path Valley. Watkins held off Gary Guise by a car length for second with T.J. Bookwalter fourth and Brad Beatty fifth. Heat wins went to Tim O'Sheehan and Watkins.
