I am late getting this posted. Here are the notes from week four at the Madhouse
Despite the Cup All Star race on TV a solid crowd of 70% capacity filled the 17,000 seat arena, a crowd any track in the country would love to have..car counts were 23 modifieds and sportsman, 20 street stocks, 39 stadium (mini) stocks, and 7 three car train race cars... Tim Brown who has been battling pneumonia for over a week boasted the fastest lap of the year in modified qualifying.. His time of 13.130 was the fastest time since 2008 when he set the all time BG record with a lap of 12.966. His 60th career win in the first race places him just 4 victories behind Ralph Brinkley. Junior Miller tops the modified winners with 71 wins at the historic speedway followed by Brinkley and Brown...Brown is the suspension manager at Michael Waltrip racing and will occassionally test drive for MWR...Both the modified race and the sportsman nightcaps featured a 16 car inversion...Brown finished in 8th in the second which was won by Dean Ward in his first appearance of the year in the Harpe racing no. 71... The second race got off to an ugly beginning as rookie Tommy Neal got onto Brian Loftin in the second attempt at a start triggering a 5 car wreck which totally destroyed the right side of Loftin's no 53 Puddin Swisher machine. Other victims who had to park the cars were Robert Jeffreys, Jonathan Brown and his brother Joseph..Neal was able to continue and finished in 9th...With a second and 11th place finish in the two races Burt Myers holds a slim three-point lead over his younger brother Jason Myers in the modified standings. ..It was a tough week for the Myers family as Burt's mother, Pam Myers, lost her sister, Kathy "Bootsie" Nocks following a lengthy illness.. Our condolences to the Myers on the passing of "Bootsie" ... The night got off to a crashing start as the first stadium stock race ended in a grinding front strech crash that left one of the cars bumpers wedged in the car rail.,, The bumper had to be cut out by the jaws of the life to remove it... This weeks the sportsman highlight the show with a 100 lap races with twins for the modifieds and it's double points nights....Coming in 2 weeks two nights of racing on Friday June 1 and Saturday June 2 featuring a 100 lap modified race on both nights and the K&N cars on Saturday night..
Danny Bohn's car is a relic in today's modified racing as the car was built in 1991 by Danny's dad, Eddie Bohn. "It was home built by my dad," said Bohn. "My grandfather, Parker Bohn, raced a main event with it and so did my dad. It's somewhat difficult to qualify with it as it's so different from the cars of today. The same things arent't going to work on our car like they would on everyone else's".
