Here are the notes from the Saturday Bowman Gray race. It lived up to its Madhouse reputation. This Friday night Bowman Gray is in action with twin 50 lap Modified features plus several other classes. Adult admission is just five dollars. I know of some folks from our area are heading down.
Another very good late arriving crowd, 75% capacity, despite a 15 minute shower right after modified qualifying..Car counts were 20 modifieds, 21 sportsman, 20 street stock, and 36 stadium (mini) stocks.. Modified no shows were Junior Miller, rookie Tony Black who lost his engine last week, and the now driver less Puddin Swisher's #53 as his driver Brian Loftin will run his car in two of the remaining four races..Tim Brown certainly looks like he is on the way to his ninth BG title. His sixth pole of the year was the 135th of his career. He came close to winning both of the twin 50's as he charged from 16th in the nightcap to third place before getting in a late race tangle..Ronnie Clifton had his best qualifying effort with the second fastest time as he and Brown redrew first and second for the first modified fifty..Even though last week was named the Night of Destruction, the name really applied to this weeks racing as paybacks and over aggressive driving left many cars with substantial damage. The Chris Fleming-John Smith feud continued in the first race and a new feud ignited between the brothers Brown , Jonathan and Bo-Bo, and Jason and Burt Myers..The sportsman races and street stock races had their share of crashes with Noah Triplette finding the wall with help in the sportsman nightcap and Willie Wall flipping his car in the street stock races.. No one was injured in any of the night long melees which continued on in the pits...Taylor Robbins made his street stock debut but was involved in 4 car pileup on the frontstretch..Four races are left in the season including a Friday-Saturday doubleheader this week. On Friday the BG Modifieds have another set of twin 50's with stadium stock, legend, banderleo, and old timer racing.. On Saturday the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modifieds are at the stadium for a 199 lap event.with sportsman, street stock, and stadium stock races...LW Miller will be going for his third win in a row at BG with 24 cars pre entered, including northeners Ryan Preece, James Civali in the Hill Enterprises #79 and local favorites such as the Myers brothers, Frank Fleming, and others..LW Miller and Andy Seuss have been having their own feud on the tour with each having their cars destroyed at Caraway Speedway. Will it continue at BG?. A huge crowd is expected this Saturday night.
