Bowman Gray Stadium, last night as part of their two-night North - South Challenge, had a rare Friday night show. It was five dollar night, all adults getting in for five bucks. They had two 50 lap modified features, two Legends features plus the four cylinders.

BGS had a crowd of 14,000 in the 16,000 seat football stadium show up despite the thunderstorms all around the city of Winston Salem. What a night, the Madhouse lived up to all expectations.

Tim Brown won the first 50 lap feature. Brown's Corvette bodied modified is a beauty. Man that car is sharp looking. Brown has figured out the outside groove on the flat quarter mile. He had little trouble winning the first feature. With the invert for the second feature he was in the middle of the field.

In the second race Burt Myers led the first half. New Jersey driver Danny Bohn and Tim Brown came through the field. On the famed Madhouse cone restart, Myers and Bohn made contact. Burt Myers went sideways in front of the field, triggering a large front stretch crash. Jason Myers received heavy damage in the crash. Burt Myers pitted, came back out and pulled beside now leader Bohn to vent some frustration.

Last five laps were great as Tim Brown was all over Danny Bohn. Brown had several chances to knock Bohn up a lane but he raced him clean. Bohn won the race by a length over Brown. The good old southern boy behind me was almost livid. He told me before the feature there was no way a yankee was going to win this feature.

Area Auto asked that I do an article on Danny Bohn and with his win it was the perfect night. He is a real nice young man and the southern fans seem to be warming up to him. Well the fans of the Myers and Brown brothers are not real happy but that is racing. Danny had collector cards and was very busy after the races handing them out and signing autographs. Nice touch, the teams stay in their pit spots after the races. That way the fans have a chance to meet the drivers. There were a lot of fans in the pits following the races.

They had 24 Modifieds, 44 Legends and around 40 four cylinders on hand. They had the Bandeleros and they brought in around 30 cars.

Tonight the NASCAR North and South Modified tours tangle. The North tour raced in New England last night and those guys had to make the long tow to North Carolina. As we were leaving Winston Salem this morning, a few of the north rigs were heading in. Those poor guys had to drive all night for the race. The north has won the past several challenges. They are expecting a sold out show. Steve Bubb
