I believe one of the things they did was make the ring gear and pinion a lot smaller

I got the feeling that Fred was in some way attributing his Back injury at Knoxville last year to the old rear end. He did not go into detail but said the new one was safer.

Yeah, they said there shouldnt be anymore back injuries attributed to the rear end hitting the seat...

From the short write up in AARN this week it sounds like Winters really did their homework on making this a quality and safe product.

They are smaller and lighter. We don't have one yet.

I did talk to Beaver at Winters about them. He told me they were getting back to making,"Racing Parts.

Winters said that the weight savings depended on what material type you buy. Aluminum or magnesium.
smaller in size is a good thing for changing it in a hurry. Is there a performance advantage, I don't think so. The only difference is a lil bit of unsprung weight. we will give it sometime to see if the reliablity factor is there. I think that could be a problem. JMO Sometimes smaller is not always better.

I believe it is a midget rear end. Steve Kinser has two and Rahmer has one.

They claim this rear improves acceleration by 11%. That's a pretty big advantage if true.

The biggest advantage Rahmer is going to have with new rear is the head games he can play with everyone else as he puts down fast consistent outings. As the first one with the new toy.

Lighter rear end will bounce less. Shocks have less work to do to dampen the motion. There is also less energy being transferred from the rear to the chassis when the tires hit a bump. A smaller ring gear will have less rotational inertia, which will make it accelerate and decelerate faster. It's all physics guys. If there is one class you do not want to sleep through, it is physics. (At least if you want to figure out what makes racecars go fast)
