Stay here and hit big races in NY, Knoxville etc. just like Greg, Fred, AND Lance do. This is the best thing going for sprint car racers in the country. Road expense is a huge part of their budget. If you remember what I said back during the Winter months I am sticking to it. I really think you will see this area in the next 3 years return to the 70's landing place for some big name drivers. I guess we will have to wait and see. If you read the Sprint and Midget magazine this month and what Greg has to say pretty much tells it all. I just know I am glad to see Haud and Sheldon here on a pretty regular basis, along with Henderson and Pittman. I say bring um on and make sure we make them feel welcome. :thumbleft:

I think youll also see alot of those all stars and lernerville people start heading over here too. As much as prices keep coming up, central PA is and i agree will get bigger as time goes by the next few years.

The way it sounds, Jim and Laura Allebach have hit their spending limit and are saying that's it.

Even if the cost to compete didn't increase, the increase in travel costs alone would be enough to make one re-think the benefits of following a national tour.

I tend to agree with Goshow, with the weekly payouts, close proximity of tracks and the amount of specials available in the area, PA is a good place to bring your sprint team.

That is the consensus of the article in this month's Sprint Car & Midget magazine on Greg Hodnett. I believe that as those costs continue to escalate, we will see more and more sprint car drivers and teams migrate to our area. Two years ago, many of us (myself included) were lamenting a drop in 410 car counts and predicting the 360 would be sprint car racing's salvation. Maybe it is the purse money recently added by some of our tracks or just karma, but 410 racing seems very alive and well in central Pennsylvania this season.

I had a very nice conversation with the owner/driver of the 12W, Troy Fraker, last evening. Troy is super-nice guy who races for fun and gave me his rationale on the costs of fielding a car that he considers not to be immensely competitive. Racing is his fun time, his pressure-relief valve and he compared it to having an RV. He said that if he swapped his race car hauler for an RV and towed it with his same truck, his fuel costs would be at least the same but probably more because he wouldn't want to go to the same places every weekend. Then he would have to pay for a camping site. Then there's dining and entertainment and so forth. All in all, he said it isn't tough to go through a grand for a weekend on the road with a nice RV. For that, he can do something he enjoys one night a week and might even take a few hundred bucks along home with him.

As long as we have the quality fields of cars we currently enjoy and when you consider what the future could hold for us fans, things are looking good.

Ed

I gotta give :thumbleft: :thumbright: to Troy Fraker. He's a die hard racer and sticks with it week in and week out.

Not to take anything away from Lucas as a driver, but he hasn't fared to well since joining the Outlaws full time. It's no wonder the funding is diminishing.

I firmly believe if you gave Lucas a car owned by Tony Stewart or Kasey Kahne $$$$$ he would be top 5 in Outlaw points. He's consistently finished top 10 in points and according to the article in AARN, he hasn't had a new motor in 4 years.

Here buddy, got a project for you.

1.Look at Cody's Results, and look at Lucas's Results.

2. Look at the money Kasey Kahne has in his operation, then look at the money Lucas has in his. Make sure you look at the past race at Lincoln also where Lucas got 5th and Cody didn't make the show.

Based on some of your other posts you seem to be one of those disgruntled Todd Shaffer fans from 05 when he quit the 5w car.

Do you think the owners will follow those drivers into town? or do you think those drivers will fill seats currently occupied by PA drivers?...or a little of both?

I think we are already seeing this...I just hope the balance stays about where it is...I' not in favor of local fields being saturated by ex-outlaws..

That was the year that Todd beat Lucas EVERY time they raced against each other. :cwm4:

Interesting question. In the past late 60's through 70's it was pack up and make a life in Pa. Van May, Bobby Allen, Kenny Weld, Steve Smith, Jan Opperman. Different day and age but at that time they brought their own equipment. Today it is much harder to make a living racing if you are footing the race car bill. A lot of it I would say could depend on area sponsors. Allen seems to be doing ok with Logan and getting some to step up, but it is a tough road with the expense involved today.

Opperman didn't bring his own equipment. Weld teamed up with Weikert ,and Smith with Myers. I have no problem with local owners teaming up with drivers from elsewhere but the problem today is that these drivers have other rides around the country and we only see them a few times a year. That's just the way it is today. We have stoudt fields at every weekly track so it's all good. Sure would be nice to see Hafertepe, Stewart and Lasoski here more often though, Stevie Smith too.
