Support For Darren Pifer

Post by 3799 » Mon May 12, 2014 12:01 pm

Realizing this is not a Central PA issue, I am asking for support, prayers, whatever you can take the time to do for a young sprint car driver from Western Pa. Darren Pifer is a rookie who races the #23 Outlaw Sprint Warrior limited sprint car at Mercer. Yesterday he was competing at Sportsmans Speedway in Knox, PA when the fuel line broke. He was life flighted to a Pittsburgh hospital suffering burns to 23% of his body. The most serious were third degree burns to his ankles that will require skin grafts. He was wearing the best safety equipment including nomex socks and underwear, or this could have been so much worse. Compounding the problem, the race track did not have a fire truck on site!

Please keep this young man and his Dad Rod Pifer in your thoughts and prayers. He posted this message from his hospital bed this morning
I'm in tears with all the support I have been getting! You guys are awesome! My steering wheel wouldn't come of and my legs were stuck in the car. Just as I was just about to give up and I felt someone grad me and pull me out but no one was around and I know exactly who it was 23% of my body is burnt mostly al my legs with 3rd degree on my ankles. Going to have surgery coming up in the next couple of days but I can promise you that I'm going to work my *** off in therapy when I get there and I will be back in a sprint car as soon as I can! Ready to push through this and get back In a sprint car a soon as it heals!! Can't thank you all enough!!

Will be praying for Darren. Glad he was wearing all his safety gear, but miffed that we still have tracks lacking in proper firefighting gear!

I just got if the phone with the Beast! He shocked the doctors and nurses by walking a lap around his hospital floor. They thought he might go just down the hall. He's a sprint car driver, not a drag racer, he made a full lap not just a straight line.

The zip code for Mercy Hospital is 15219.

The positive attitude this 21 year old man is showing is so impressive.

Are there any arrangements to accept donations, in the event that he or his family need help with expenses due to things that insurance doesn't cover, missed time from work, etc.?

Darren will undergo surgery Wednesday for skin grafts to his ankles. His thighs were burned so much, they will have to take the skin from his back. The Beast has been in a tremendously positive mood throughout the whole ordeal. God bless him and his family in the coming days. The doctors hope he could be back in the sprint car in three months. Darren and his family have been overwhelmed by the support they are receiving. Thank you all!

Darren underwent successful skin graft surgery this morning. He is now out of surgery which went well. The doctors expect "The Beast" as he is now known could be back in a sprint car in about 3 months.

You would never know Darren is just three days removed from severe burns over 23% of his body. He had surgery today for skin grafts on his ankles. This young man has had the most positive attitude through the whole ordeal. Really amazing!

Absolutely thrilled for Darren Pifer. He told me today he is getting out of the hospital on Monday. What this young man has endured would completely demoralize a normal man. Not once has he complained despite the pain he has been in. I just cringed when I looked at his bandages. Having a friend like Darren makes you want to be a better person. Out of the hospital Monday and into my booth next Saturday night. So happy for you Darren me your family. Thank you God for this miracle!
Out of the hospital Monday, into my booth at Mercer next Saturday, and back behind the wheel August 16thl we will keep the guys injured at Selinsgrove in our prayers.
