Selinsgrove - 360/358 Drivers

Post by psu 12 » Mon Jun 16, 2014 1:06 pm

Selinsgrove needs to have some support this Saturday. So that means instead of not racing, come out and support the place. The last time there was an unsanctioned 360/358 race, there were around 13 cars present. That just does not seem acceptable considering the great racing that Selinsgrove provides week in and week out. The track has been great all season. So I am hoping that all 360/358 drivers think about it and support the non-sanctioned event this Saturday. There has been one 358 driver supporting Selinsgrove consistently all year long. That driver has been extremely successful all year long. Honestly, he is basically the only one supporting the place. There is no reason that other 358 drivers cannot be there to race. I especially believe that there are many local drivers that need to think long and hard about this and come out and support their local track. Just think about it. Thirteen cars is not even close to a full field. Hopefully some guys will notice that and come to take advantage of making a show.

Yeah good luck with that. The track wanted to run 360's so quit trying to talk 358's in coming up.

Id like to see 358's support a 358 track instead on Friday night's. :cheers2:

Talk about not being able to see forest for the trees. Revert to the 358 rules of five years ago. Problem solved, full fields of 358's. . When something wasn't broke with the 358 class why did they try to fix it.

Well you had to expect some growing pains in the first year. We'll see how it progresses(or not) from here. With the NDRL LM's @ Port wonder what the LM count will be also.

I have no idea what they plan for this week but the last time Selinsgrove ran an unsactioned regular purse race Cannon ans Zearfoss were both at Port.

Yes because both Cannons 360's were being rebuilt and so were Zearfoss's.

My point is that if you are not getting a full field of 360/358's, why not go there and try to make money..... The purse they are paying far exceeds that of any track that is just running 358s. So why not try to make some money if you are a 358 driver. That was all that I meant.... Nothing else...

The bottom line - car counts are dropping everywhere. Cost is the issue. It's a factor in racing and it is happening everywhere. 358's are running at many different tracks and Selinsgrove tried something different. I don't fault them in this move, but honestly, I didn't have much faith in it either.

I think car counts at Dinky Linky have been fine.

What your saying doesn't make sense though to a team that is on a super shoe string budget and quite frankly if they blow up a motor or twist a chassis they are done for the year. Lets be real here. Selinsgrove is harder on motors than Trailsway, and Lincoln. You are also much more likely to destroy a chassis or more in a wreck at Selinsgrove vs Lincoln or Trailway. Granted you can destroy a motor or chassis at any track, but given the greater speeds at Selinsgrove it doesn't take a scientist to figure out which is gonna tear up more stuff more often.

Yeah the purse is higher, but what if you don't win and tear up stuff. You have to be willing to lose some stuff in order to gain, and I'll bet that quite a few of the 358 teams just aren't willing to take a chance with their gear right now. Maybe later on in the year, but it's awful early yet to tear something up and sit while you pay to put something back together out of your own pocket.

A lower budget 358 can possibly risk losing a motor there. It make no sense to run there if they are going to push more out of their car then will make in a night. With that said I do understand you wont make money in this sport.

Tell that to the 6r team. They bank $800 + every week at Trail Way.
