Last night the King of the West 410 tour hit the quarter mile at Santa Maria Speedway in Santa Maria, California. Kyle Hirst led all the way in the Roth 83 to win the 30 lap feature. The story of the night was second place finisher Dominic Scelzi. Back from his back injuries, Scelzi made an amazing move on a restart going from the outside fence in turn one to the bottom of turn two to pick off a bunch of cars and get second. Scelzi ran down Hirst and was even on the last lap. Hirst just edged him out at the line. His dad Gary Scelzi, the former funny car world champion, had a massive ear to ear grin,
Talked to Scelzis mom after the race and they have hopes of someday going WoO. She said with his being 18 they dont want out on the WoO trail. Kid has tons of talent.
Former local driver Tyler Walker tried to take the lead on the opening lap of his heat but spun right in front of the pack. Two cars hit him and Walkers car flopped over. He made repairs for the feature but was no factor.
The series is at the fifth mile Ventura Speedway tonight.
