Name Help...Early to mid 60's

Post by 1080 » Mon Jul 04, 2011 2:51 pm

Who was the driver of the U2 car. Lee _______ ? This picture is from 1964.This car is the 1962-63 Roger Sowers 83 that was bought at the McCoy auction at the end of 1963.

Here are 2 pictures of this car from 1962...1963 when it was the McCoy car...yes it is the same car with different sheet metal. It was chopped some in early 1963 to lose some weight and was busted up some in the famous Hersh-Sowers Grove bridge crash in 1963.

I think the name started with a U....not sure.....been trying to figure out (remember) this for a while....since this car was the last McCoy 83 per se.

Bryan Householder....Come in with the 1964 stats... :D

Osgood was 09. Yellow car that won once or twice at the Grove in 1964. I believe he was taken out under the yellow one night by a tow truck while leading also! This 09 was the 1963 15 of Thompson. In 1965 this car became the F9 of Troy Funck and Bill Miller I believe. The F9 stood for Frankies 9. Bill Miller flipped this car down the front stretch at the Grove....Off topic, but you know me filling in the "story" when one pops up!

That would make a great cover for U2's next CD. Maybe "the edge" drove it. :laughing7:

Just on a hunch, I checked my stats from Hagerstown in 1964 and there on the final point standings in 50th place is #U2 Lee Schriver. I am not sure where he was from.
