Toby did not fare well that day nor did Wales. Look at the picture of the 1E and the 1 and you will see the sheet metal is removed from the 1E which would have been illegal at a CVRA Race. Check the 1964 Stars and Cars and you'll see the 1E (topless) in turn 2 with a converted sprinter passing him.

Dubendorf in the Trone 39 did finish 4th.

They had a CVRA 100 lapper after the Open Competition 100 in 1964 which dissallowed sprinters and cars with tube frames. Gerhart won that in the Appler 77.....maybe that is the 100 lapper the Emrich cars were not at?

Thanks 1080. It seems like my dad and I were both confused on this one...I didn't remember the CVRA 100 race......that could have been the race the Emrich cars didn't compete. Question on the white deuce coupe...wasn't that nicknamed the "Baby Bunny"? ... but I don't remember the driver...I thought he from MD?

Baby bonny as it was a pontiac. i think paxton may have been in it in 63 at the 100. The dark blue 1 became the 1e. Surniak was in the 1 sidewinder at the 66 susky opener, not sure if toby ran it in 65 or not. The Grove 100 in 64 was run in twp 50 lap segments, the 1 and 1e were at the first half but did not retuen for the second 50 laps a week or two later or for the cvra race. The abel 2 in 63 carried emrich as a sponsor on the car.

The cut down coupe from late 61 and most of 1962 is the car that was reskined and became the 1e
the car Johnny is standing with was sold at the end of 1962 to the McCoy team and was driven by Johnny for one race then Ray Tilley, I also think that car was eventually sold to Rosel Dolan. If you ever look at a side shot of the 1e you will notice a lot of space between the motor and the radiator. When the coupe body was removed the motor was moved back to right in front of the roll cage and the car was skined with sheet metal. That car ended up with Bob Foor and I believe he won the Port title with it.

thanks goshow for the correction, i never was clear on the 1e car. There is a photo of the two 1 cars at the grove on the frontstretch, 1962. johnny would be in one of them, don't know the other driver, and if johnny was in the new or old 1.

Pretty sure Johnny was in the new #1 in that photo, but even he doesn't remember who was driving the late 1961-62 cut down coupe car in that photo..I asked. :dontknow: He doesn't miss a race his grandson's are in be it at the kart track or now days Lincoln, he even visits every test session Jordy (younger than Hunter) ran at Susky last year. He seems to have left it go whatever had him upset, maybe regret for retiring at such a young age. He enjoys talking racing more than he use to.

Didn't they make them put the roof back on in 1963 which McCoy would have owned the car then and Roger was one of his drivers. Not sure of the exact transition from when Johnny stepped out after the first race in 63 and Tilley took over the wheel. 1080 I am sure has facts on that. Roger very well could have driven the car some, also that was always my thought on the pic 1080 has from the end of 1962. Did Roger drive some in either of those#1 cars in that pic.? Just a guess at this point since knowone seems to remember who was in the other car at the Grove. :dontknow:

the pic with the dark blue 1car and the old cut down coupe in the background, that day the old coupe was a back up car, I don't think anyone was driving it , as I remember, I could be wrong.

The picture of the spinning 1 is probably Ray Tilley. Roger drove the 1 the opening night at the Grove in 1963 after Johnny retired the week or so before. Unless this is that week, I suspect it to be Tilley. Back in those days , the races started at 8 or 830, so it would have been dark for the whole show in April. I know the 1 car had a white sheet metal roof at the end of 1963 and had that light blue roof early. CVRA told the 1 and 39 cars to get some sheet metal on them to look like "modifieds"...The Hersh 39 had a body slapped on it also to comply. If you look at the 1 and 39 from late 1962 and very early 1963, they had little sheet metal and no "bodies".

Frankie Thompson drove the 83 the night Roger was in the 1 car. Fuzzy memory, but I think Roger finished maybe 4th and Thompson was close behind. I recall Frankie said the 83 was heavy and they proceeded to chop some sheet metal off of it soon after while remaining within the "rules". The 83 was a sharp car with the chopped body....and one ugly looking thing when the modified it.

Here is the last 1 car in 1964....Rosel Dolin..

A sharp number 83....1962-early 1963

This is actually the same 83 in 1964....now U2...Lee ?????

Also...the Baby Bonny picture above was actually driven by Bobby Brymesser at the Natty Open....
