The puzzle of the front stretch picture is unreal.....Who was in the old number 1?

From the group of cars shown.....Roger Sowers is the missing car and would have been in that mix since it was the "Injector heat" I suspect. Only other significant car missing is the Folkenroth 100....which would have been last since he had a blower....

Another rule tidbit....they made the 1 and 39 put sheet metal over the radiator area to simulate a hood per se. If you look at the spinning 1, it has no hood. Check out the 188....this is what the 1 looked like after the hood request. You see unpainted sheet metal over the engine on the U2. The hood was cut back on the 83 to just cover the radiator area when they chopped it in 1963.

I could write a small book about the rule battles......You should have heard the complaints about the Grim 88 from 1966....check those pictures out from day 1 at Susky until they made it to the Grove opener....and as the season progressed....

Bottom line...the Mackison 1 was way ahead of its time. It was lightweight! It was a thing of beauty parked and on the speedway going from 18th to first in a lap or two when it was running right...

I am just glad I grew up during this period, it was special to check the cars out as they towed in on an open trailer or even ground towed. Every one was unique to itself and you got excited to see a new car and driver show up but actually be able to place that car as sold from another team, as was the case with the York Cash Register 43 that was actually the 51 from the Gurtizen team driven formerly by Bob Myers, just like the couple cars 1080 posted above. In this day of manufactured cars we will never see that again even though cars are passed around you never really know it. You could actually place the car in those days which seemed pretty cool to me.

Did Folkenroth start the 64 season with an older 50 blue and white car and then came out with either a new 50 or the old 50 redone? Looked like a new car back then. This became the 51 Myers car i think.

I believe the 50 was a new car in 1964....but I don't remember the 1963 Black 50 reappearing in 1964....at least with the same general appearance.

Here is an old black & white snapshot that I wanted to share with you guy's. It's a little rough, But I think it's good enough to post.
Hope you enjoy!

The 50 and 51 both ran in 1965. If the 51 was the 1964 50, was the 50 that ran in 1965 a new car for 65 or did it come out late in 64?

Won't swear to it but I think it was a new car that came out late 1964. For sure the car Smokey drove was the 51 Bob Myers car. Smoke told me himself they bought that car. :thumbright:

I will have some pics up for you guys that Goose Ruth shared with me to post. 1961, 62, 63
some really cool stuff you don't usually see, so stay tuned. :thumbleft: Think you probably have seen these Grocery1...
