My understanding is it was the address of YorkShire Garage. Not 100% sure but that is what my dad always told me when I was a kid. I do know since I was at the Yorkshire garage the week the 1962 #1 came out, at the end of 1961. They layed the number out on the cut down coupe and it didn't fit well so hence the change to #1. Sure wish someone would have taken pics of those cars being built.
I did ask Johnny and Davey about the antenna's on the cars and they confirmed it probably was a :poking: at Luke McCoy.

I loved that question about the antenna!!!! :yessss: GoShow..

1080 - no clue....but the neatest car number ever.

To this day...you say 1080 to a older race fan and "Mackison" is said...one of the few numbers remembered by the casual fan from years ago.

Yorkshire Garage is at 91 Longstown Road.....I assume it is still the same place off Market Street in York...Maybe the number was different years ago or it was someones address.
Willie Hamilton(?) was the owner??

They had a tribute by the announcer at Lincoln last night for John before they did the National Anthem! :thumbright:

Such sad news. One of the great ones. Our thoughts and prayers to the entire Mackison family.
