1953 or 1954 at Westport Stadium in Baltimore. 1956 is the first races I remember. Johnny Roberts and Reds Kagle were the big names. 1957 at Langhorne for my first ROC.
We discovered Lincoln in 1962 and the best food between Baltimore and Hanover, the Rus-Joy Inn just south of the Pa. line.

I was 13 days old my parents took me to Silver Springs Speedway. The first race I remember was at Williams Grove Speedway and Lance Dewease won in the 461 and I believe Bob Fannasy won the Sportsman.

Around 1972 - my parents took me to Silver Springs, sat on the backstretch until I was old enough to get in the pits.
First time I saw sprint cars was at Susky around 1979.
Didn't get to the Grove until 1983(?).
Remember the first night seeing Scott Tobias coming down the frontstretch with the fluorescent orange MRT lock rings on the rear wheels.
The announcer (before Bruce) was saying that they were the latest thing in racing.

I was born in 58. I know I remember going to Lincoln before I even went to school. Mackison was still driving. I remember Kantorsky's coach. I also remember riding in the back of the panel truck towing the car my Dad drove, and sometimes we'd pick up Pappy Brubaker and give him a ride up to Lincoln.

Funny how you can remember racing stuff from 4 or 5 years old but I still do. I remember being in VL with Lee Petty at Lincoln and I think that was probably 57 or 58. Now if I could just remember what I did yesterday.. :dontknow:

I think it was opening day at the Grove-1981. I got out of Church and went right to my friends house to leave for the races. If I memory serves me right, as we were pulling into the parking lot the first heat was starting. Hearing the big blocks for the first time was quite a sound. All of a sudden the motors went quiet. I think someone flipped into the bridge but not sure if I'm joining two memories. Anyhow when we got inside we went to the infield to stand at turns 1 and 2, the infield was full. I didn't know any drivers or teams so I had to pick someone to root for. The 29 car was sharp looking as was the 1 Boops car, the 17 Tobias car, the car with the bricks was cool looking and the 1a seemed to be a good car also. Being a Ford fan the orange 77 was on my short list but the clean looking white 56 came to be my favorite. Smokey did not win that day, Lynn Paxton in the Boops Aluminum Special took the checkers. I remenber a fan in turns 1 and 2 the had a Boops Aluminum #1 hat shaped like a top wing that was very happy however he was not happy with his friends that was hiding his beer every time he wasn't looking. Made for some great side entertainment.I have attended and love alot of diffrent types of racing but Sprint car racing is at the top.

I also remember the night a the Port when Keith took the #29 to victory lane the hopped into the #21 Mustang and nearly one in that also. It was exciting as he would throw both cars slidways what seemed as at or just past the flag stand. He was flat out flyin. Glad I had a friend that got me involved in racing.
