I agree, miss the afternoon races in March. Never had to buy ice for the cooler, didn't need a cooler.
I seem to remember afternoon races in the fall when I was a kid. Did they run the National Open in the afternoon in the early years or am I getting confused?

No, your not confused, they would qualify on Sat. and have the 150 lapper on Sun. If my memory serves me correctly, the first couple they ran everything on Sunday though.

Thats what I thought. I was thinking they were 150 laps but I wasn't sure.
I believe they were in 1969 and 1970.

I remember very well my 1st National Open in 1993, ran on a Sunday afternoon because of rain on Saturday night...and a certain #69K driving away with the win :thumbright: :yessss: :yessss: :bdf: :cheers2:

Donnie was ruling the dirt , no doubt about it. Was that the year the Outlaws didn't stay for Open?

Nope, they were all there!! Jeff Swindell was a distant second that day. 1998 rained out, and was ran a couple weeks later, sans Outlaws ;)

Yep, I remember Kauffman in the 88h that night, although I don't remember who won. The one that Darrah won a couple years ago was also after the outlaws rained out. Haven't missed a natty since '96.

Pretty sure is was Billy Pauch in the Zemco 1z that took the checkers in the rain-delayed '98 Open :cheers2: :thumbleft:
