It was basically a big 4 bar sprint car. Fast out of the box & helped propel Jimmy Horton to his fabulous career in the Statewide #3.

Weld's modifieds were actually coil-overs, looked like torsion until you looked close. Torsion arms with short bars transfered to inboard mounted coil-overs, front and rear. It behaved like a 4 bar the way it was laid out. He came up with it because at the time, Reading didn't allow torsion bars. Guy was a genius.

there were a few versions......this is the straight up front coil car
the version that you described had inbord mounted coilovers on a bellcrank type arrangement, one off each side of the axle and hooking to the shocks and also a front "sway bar" similar to the "king" modifieds that was over the front axle and tied to the shock pickup points below the axle tube.
and yes, he was a genius.
