I tried looking for the thread about Kenny's car and could not find it. So here is a pic, I took in th mid 80's at the Knoxville Nationals.
I have been a race fan that long that I was a Junior fan when it meant Junior Johnson.

Sorry oldracer, but that isn't Weld. IIRC, the guy's last name is Johnson and he was from Texas. The design was suposedly from a computer program. While Kenny's car was inovative, it looked much more conventional than this creation.

I know I am getting old. You know I forgot all about the guy with the computer car. Maybe did too much partying when I was there. I, also do not know why I thought it was Kenny's car when I looked at it. For some reason I have nothing written about this car. So I do stand corrected.

There's been discussion about this car before. I think his name was Doug Johnson, and it did set fast time at a WoO event. I think this car was ran around 1986-88. I remember first seeing pictures and reading about the car in Open Wheel Magazine.

such a pity that we can't have creativity, perhaps not to this extreme, but innovative, nonetheless.

I remember the car well and some of the story behind it, but it does win my award for Fugly! The two bars next to his head are a real no,no. I understand the concept but they need to be an inch off his helmet to be effective, similar to a Top Fuel cage.
Anyone remember when Marsh came out with the beadlock wheel they all had the orange beadlock ring.

I have reason to believe that Kenny Weld's roadster ended up in Texas as a #22(painted blue)before the weird #22 that Tom Johnson ran.... maybe the same crew??

Former Outlaws driver Bobby Marshall (Driver of the original Blue Max car... circa 1979-81) has a album of photos of this car on his facebook page and the story as he tells it was that the car was derived originally from a roadster he and his father raced an then sold to johnson... he has pics of the creature in various states of its metamorphasis from the original roadster to that 'thing'... whatever you want to call it
