I was there. No pics though. I remember Joe McCarthy was in a bad wreck.

There was a Sprint car race,too that day,with a massive pile-up on the start,IIRC.

Was that the race they tried to start 3 wide? Didn't they have a big fire too?

I was there, the sprint car wreck was huge. 3 wide into what looked liked the 1935 dust bowl. The USAC race was much better. If I remember the Sprint car race was in Nov. or December, the USAC was in April the following year.

JLK,both the same day. It was almost dark out when Mc Carthy went out of the park.

Yep I was there and was pitted next to Gary Bettenhausen and he told me a great story and I shared that during the recent open house at Latimore. Ken Schrader won the Silver Crown Championship that day to the much dismay of Ron Shuman who was reaally upset about tit because this race was added on to the season and Shuman would had won otherwise. The 3 wide start and fire were from the Winged Sprint race not the USAC SIlver Crown race.

I was there. It was the first race I ever saw in December.

The big wreck at Nazareth was the same weekend that Syracuse ran
I was there working on Van May's car and we lead 3/4 of the race til
we lost a cyl., remember Lindy V. was promoting the track and he was
having a disagreement with the promotors at Syracuse so he ran mods
and supersprints the same weekend and Al Hamilton flew a few drivers
back and forth between the two tracks Keith K. was driving for Al at the time, the big wreck started because after the first 3 or 4 rows went
into the first turn it was so dusty the rest of the drivers couldn't see a
thing in front of them !!! :ahhh:
