Greetings,

I am trying to locate any photo's of the big block stanton/challenger car that Keith Kauffman ran in 1985. I have been told that this is the frame but I am trying to find some pictures to confirm. I don't believe any of the parts on this car are original, maybe the hood, don't know for sure. I know that Kauffman won at Port on August 3rd 1985 with a big block stanton. One thing that is kinda unique about this frame is that the A-bars behind the rear seat are touching each other at the top where they tie into the cage. I believe the arm guards "sissy bars" were added. This car was raced by Jim Maxson as a limited sprint in the early 1990's. Any help is greatly appreciated.

regards, John J.

I just talked to Jim Maxson, he said he will check in here later to read your post. If you're on Facebook, he is on there as James Maxson, you're welcome to check him out.

I had a Stanton/Challenger non downtube chassis that was bowed out to accommodate a Ford. :)

There was an article in Open Wheel magazine that showed Keith and Al in Gary Stanton's shop in Phoenix. It showed Al sitting in a sprint car and there was a statement that he had bought two or three of the new cars. :)

Yes I have that copy. I will be sending to new owner of the car. I wanted to keep that car and restore it at a later time. I had a J&J that needed to be finished so it was sold. I regret it everyday.

Here are some pictures of the car through the years (thanks to Jim Maxson). This is what I learned from talking with Jim. The car was originally owned by Al Hamilton and driven by Keith Kauffman, next it went to M&B racing out of the York Area, I believe Jeff Ball was the owner. The car was a blue number 6 with a yellow frame and was driven by Tommy Spriggle. Jim then got the car and ran it from 1993 to 1996 in both 358's and URC. The car was sold in 1996 and has had numerous owners since then but has not been raced since then.

The rear shock towers were changed at some point, I took a close look at the frame and you can see where the original ones were removed and ground smooth.
