Williams Grove Civil Suit...1954 or 1955

Post by 1080 » Sat Jul 19, 2014 1:04 pm

There was some kind of court action back in the mid 50's involving a driver being injured. I am not sure on the circumstances. The drivers son told me (many years ago) that it may have involved getting struck at the track. The driver (injured party) was Jimmy James. At that time Williams Grove had insurance through Lloyds of London.

I do not know the outcome....

You are correct on the suit. A car went into the pits and struck several people. Back then the pits were open to cars coming off the track. I do not know the outcome, it should not be hard to find, but it would not surprise me if Roy Richwine settled it.

There was also a law suit over a fan being struck in 1946. Back then fans would run across the track to get to the infield. One fan did so during the races and was hit. That suit led to the building of the bridge and tunnel in 1947.
