National or National Open

Post by DavidM » Fri Aug 07, 2015 8:20 am

What made a race a National or National Open? Was there a criteria that had to be met or was it just a catchy name to add to a big race?

I don't mean to stir up any controversy or anything, and that's not my desire but I kind of wish they'd go back to making the National Open a 150 lap event, or even a 100 lap event.

I do realize (and understand) that a race that long is very taxing on track officials, prep crew, drivers, pit crews and especially equipment (and sometimes....even fans...LOL). But I have seen the National Open in all of its differing forms and (in my opinion) the 150 lap events were the best.

I too liked the longer races, but I only saw the 100 and 75 lap version. Today if they did 150 laps I think they would need 5 fuel stops.

I wish it was an open race again. No WOO sanction.

IMO it's fine the way it is. Without the WOO, you wouldn't have as many cars or fans. If anything they should add the All-stars too. The Woo and all-stars have run co-sanctioned shows before. That would be great, even more cars. I don't know why they needed to add a 3rd day, but hey it's another night of racing.
