If they didn't spend that kind of money, the best players would just be playing somewhere else for less money. The Yankee's spend it because that's what it takes to assemble the best team. The Yankees still had to earn the title by playing and winning the games. It's not a whole lot different than racing. I'm not going to penalize high dollar teams because they went out and got the best available and went out and kicked some tail. If you want it bad enough and have the money, why not?
I'm not a big baseball fan and really didn't care who won, but I don't see anything wrong with having the best players on a team - even if it's outragiously expensive. It's Stienbrenner's money and if that's what he wants, then so be it. If ya can't run with the big dogs....
I just hope the the NFL doesn't take off the salary cap off because the Cowboys will become the Yankees of the NFL.
Baseball is the most inequitable sport in the world. Yes, we have had a very few Florida's win it all, but very few that is. I don't ever see in my lifetime the Pittsburgh Pirates contending for a World Series regardless of management knowledge and philosophy.
If they go uncapped in NFL, the disparity between the low tier financial teams and the high tier will not be a great as baseball. But, overtime you will see owners who currently can't succeed in a capped market, succeed in the uncapped due to money (JERRY JONES).
