Health is the key, because you know Laviolette <(SP?) will keep them focused AND hungry. With all of the talent and depth the Flyers got, IMO Signing Laviolette is just what the doctor ordered.

Give me one of these :gen069: for switching to the State of the Union Address, because I missed the Gill incident. But I know Carcillo was ready to take a hold of Gomez. The look on Gomez' face when Carcillo got up and charged after him was priceless...

Home ice will be the key..PREDICTION: Flyers VS Canucks...Flyers in 6... :bananadance:

P.S...Don't like losing Leighton, because I'm still not sold on Boucher..... :dontknow:

Forsberg Back On The Ice
Forward Skates Prior To Colorado's Game Against Boston Saturday, 01.22.2011 / 4:57 PM / Features By Craig Stancher As expected, Peter Forsberg was on the ice today at Pepsi Center prior to Colorado’s game against the Boston Bruins - one day after the Avalanche announced that the forward would begin skating with the team.

Forsberg, who arrived in Colorado last night, hit the ice shortly after 8:00 a.m. and stayed on for approximately 45 minutes. He was joined by injured Avalanche forward Ryan O’Reilly and assistant coach Steve Konowalchuk during the pre-game session.

The forward, who has been skating with Modo’s junior team in Sweden, wanted to come to Denver to test his oft-injured foot and find out where he is at physically before deciding on his next career move. The Ornskoldsvik native said he believed the only way to fully analyze his health would be to skate against NHL players, so he called his agent, who then made contact with the Avalanche earlier this week to see if an opportunity existed.

“I’ve been skating at home in Sweden for mostly the whole year, but never really felt as good as I wanted until lately,” said Forsberg. “I thought it was better to try out and skate with the best players, and got the opportunity to come over here and skate with this team. I’m looking forward to seeing if I can play in this league anymore, if I’m good enough and if everything holds up.”

With Saturday’s skate over and done with, his first test is now complete. But it’s still too early to speculate on what this all means, and whether or not Forsberg might eventually return to the NHL. For now, he’s just happy to be back on the ice in an NHL setting.

“I felt okay, we’ll see how it goes,” Forsberg commented after getting off the ice. “I’ve been skating, like I said, most of the whole time back in Sweden. I don’t know how long it’s going to take to really get in game shape, but it’s going to be exciting to start skating if I can skate with the team soon.

“The foot is definitely better, but I don’t know how good it is. I want to see where I’m at and I’m really fortunate to come over here and try to practice.”

That’s a relatively positive outlook, considering the injury troubles and numerous surgeries (“double digits,” in his own estimation) Forsberg has experienced during his career. He admits he thought about hanging up the skates “plenty of times” but felt he would be cheating himself if he didn’t give things one more try.

There were no set plans revealed Saturday on exactly how Forsberg would be worked into Colorado’s practices, and the forward himself says that you simply can’t put a timetable on his status.

“I don’t think it’s going to take one day, I think it’s going to take longer,” said Forsberg. “There’s not really a timeframe. I want to be sure this time that I am good enough if I decide to play, but I don’t know how long it’s going to take.”

Avalanche General Manager Greg Sherman also addressed the media Saturday, shortly after Forsberg. Sherman made clear that there have been no contract talks between the two sides at this point.

“We haven’t even gone down that path yet,” said Sherman. “We’re going to see how this week goes, how the next couple of days go, and at the appropriate time we’ll address that.”

Contract issues aside, given the bond Forsberg has with the Avalanche organization, the decision to allow Forsberg to practice with the team and find out where he is physically was an easy one for Sherman to make.

“I think certainly you look at the history we’ve had with this particular player,” said Sherman. “Anytime you have an opportunity where an elite player in this game wants to come practice and see where he’s at physically, given the history he’s had with this franchise, I think it makes all the sense in the world to bring him in.”

Agreed Tig. Although I think in a series they would be fine.

Piney........I like Bouch in the fill in role. Sponge Bob is the one that I am having mixed emotions with. He looks like a star 1 night and Stevie Wonder the next. Doesn't matter how good Lavvy is..........he can't stop the puck for the boyz.

light·en·ing

the descent of the uterus into the pelvic cavity, occurring toward the end of pregnancy, changing the contour of the abdomen and facilitating breathing by lessening pressure under the diaphragm.

light·ning

1. a brilliant electric spark discharge in the atmosphere, occurring within a thundercloud, between clouds, or between a cloud and the ground.
2. to emit a flash or flashes of lightning (often used impersonally with it as subject): If it starts to lightning, we'd better go inside.
