Its time get over it Nascar. Make someone buy the rights to the #3. You Forced the King Richard Petty to unretire the MOST famous # 43. Have at it saying it shouldnt ever be used again.....BULLSH%$

RCR buys the rights to the 3 every year so nobody uses the number.

i thought i read somewhere with the petty deal that the number had to be entered in a certain number of events per year to maintain the rights.

All the car owner has to do is buy the number every year and it can be used any way it wishes.

Besides do you realy think anyone would ever try and use the #3 ? I don't.

somebody that wasn't around 10 years ago and uses #3 in karting and gets lucky enough to get to cup, you bet. i don't think it would be a sign of disrespect.

some very prominent people drove the #3 car before dale. not that any where quite as successful but still

Then please explain why the # 43 is being used? Richard Petty helped put Nascar on the map way before Earnhardt

i know petty started using it again because they were going to take it away for lack of use. in other sports, with very few exceptions, it is the team not the league that retires numbers. baseball as a league retired #42 in honor of jackie robinson. RCR could retire the number 3 from their team and not allow another RCR driver to use it but until NASCAR retires numbers it's gonna be used again for sure.

I think it should be used again. I see no problem with any driver using the number

They said on Sirius NASCAR radio last week that if RCR feilds a Nationwide car for Dillon, it will be #3... as for Cup as long as Richard keeps paying the money for 3 he can use it or not, that's all on Richard

I thinks its Richards Childress's choice since he's paying the bills, and I trust him and Dale where close enough that he will know when the time is right... 3 or no 3 there will never be another INTIMIDATOR!!!

Got this from wiki...

Richard Childress made a public pledge that the number 3 would never again adorn the side of a black car sponsored by GM Goodwrench. Childress, who currently holds the rights from NASCAR to the #3, has placed a moratorium on using it.
