After years of being supported by Big Tobacco and cigarette smoking, here is today’s sign that the NASCAR world has moved on.

Michigan International Speedway announced that is has banned smoking from all grandstand seating, mezzanines, concession and restroom buildings, suites and chalets. Smoking will still be allowed in “approved areas”, but the track is now touting itself as a “smoke-free racetrack.” It really has no choice, considering a Michigan law bans smoking in public places beginning on May 1st.

So is NASCAR going require Tony to now be referred to as "Chew"?

That will just make more fans stay at home...either way they do it they screw themselves but they havent sold a race out in years so wont be much different for them.

You'll probably see more races sold out this year than you did in years past. The reason why, tickets are on sale now. Meaning they are between $25 and $45.

Did anyone see that you can get tickets now for Charlotte, Coke 600, All Star weekend and for the drag strip at 50% off.

The only reason they will sell any races out is just like you said 1/2 off tickets. Nasacr is not racing anymore they only follow ten drivers in coverage every week. I for one would like to see what other guys are doing like Paul Menard and Robby Gordon. I use raceveiw every week to watch the race that way I dont have to hear Jimmie Johnson name thousand times a race.

Pocono has it too but it hasn't been really picked up on. It started last year. It's not a NASCAR thing - it's PA state law.

This is from their fan guide:
"Effective September 11, 2008, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has enforced the Senate Bill 246, The Clean Indoor Air Act. This law also includes Stadiums of which Pocono Raceway is classified. The law will require Pocono Raceway to prohibit smoking in the following areas: Sky Boxes, Private Sky Boxes, Terrace Club, Terrace Bistro, Victory Circle Club, Pacesetter Club, Club Pocono, Tricky Triangle Club, Chalet Village, Corporate Pit Side Suites, Roof Garden, Cafeteria, all Grandstand Seating and areas under the Grandstands. The ban includes hallways, entrances and all restrooms associated with these areas."
