The purpose of the sportsman are basicly to run the track in and allow fans time to get something to eat and use the restromm.

I don't see the need to disrespect the Sportsman racers and teams like that. Those guys race and work hard to put their cars on the track just like any other division of racing.

The sportsman are one of my favorite divisions. I like the fact that they are self-starting. :jiggy:

Total weight of car and driver may not be less than 1775 pounds.
Engines limited to 358 cubic inches, but you can also run a 320ci
Maximum of four barrels of carburetion. Single carburetor only. No super chargers, fuel injection or turbo chargers. Sprinter use fuel injection. Sportsman used to be a longer car than a sprinter, but I don’t think that’s the case anymore.

 Isn't the chassis differant on a Sportsman also. Meaning you would not be able to drop a 305 ,358 or 410 in it to run with those guys.

go to the homepage, scroll down,on the left click racing links, click Silver Springs, scroll down to rules. i've been following that division since 1973,and have see many of great races. and i never considered them a support class.
