Steelers have started contract talks with...

Post by Hockdizzle » Tue Feb 08, 2011 1:46 pm

The Pittsburgh Steelers' offseason agenda includes retaining veteran cornerback Ike Taylor.

Taylor had a resurgent season.

Although he's not a star, Taylor is known around the league as a sound tackling presence and solid cover guy.

And the Steelers have already launched contract talks with Taylor, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Following a Super Bowl run, the Steelers plan on keeping their team together.

"I think we still have a core group of players that we can build around and hopefully make another run at it," Steelers president Art Rooney II said.

Added middle linebacker James Farrior(notes): "I love this group. "There's still a lot of football in us, and we've just got to stay together. Hopefully everything will work out in the offseason."

I also read in the post gazzett that they are planning on using the franchise tag on LaMarr Woodley and then work out a new contract with him :wavetowel:

The NFC's 6th playoff seed beat the almighty AFC's Champion.
I'd find someone better to fill the spots.

Some people stare at the TV and then think they actually know what they are watching.

Ike is good. The rest are junk. They won't do it, but sign up Asomugha and we would be lights out on defense.

Sad part, he is average and the best corner they have.Mcfadden gets turned around like he's following the Grateful Dead,Gay has good position but fails to make the play half the time. You only see it against 3 or 4 teams in the league because of there front 7.So I don't see nothing changing though free agency.

They proved they can win the Super Bowl twice with this weakness and were one drive from number 3,so I see no problem if they start next year the same in the secondary.

PFT's Mike Florio refutes a report that the Steelers have begun contract negotiations with impending free agent Ike Taylor.

Florio suggests the Steelers "planted" the original story in a local paper in hopes of discouraging potential suitors. As a general rule, the organization does not negotiate during the season. Taylor and OLB LaMarr Woodley are expected to be the Steelers' top priorities this offseason.

A Steeler executive was quoted during super bowl week as saying #56 ain't going anywhere.

I agree, we don't make free agency splashes and I follow the company line but in this instance would fully support signing him. I think we need to have a discussion with Hines about restructuring his deal. At cornerback, McFadden and Gay are terrible. Keenan Lewis was supposed to step up this year but hasn't. If you recall, Ike sat on the practice squad for a year or two until the light went off. Are they assuming the same will happen with Lewis?

There is no way we can go into next season with that group unless Lewis is vastly improved.
