There is 1 LM locally with over 1000HP, so add injection and more cash and I'm sure you'd see 1150HP sprint car engines. And yes , they can't hook it up when its dry!.

Just curious who that is? Is that big block that runs at Port putting out that kind of hp?

And they aren't slouches, either. Those 2,200-pound machines circled the Grove last night two seconds faster than the 1,500-pound 358 sprinters and about two seconds slower than the 1,400-pound 410s.

Huh? Are you sure about that? Selinsgrove runs 358's and SLM's weekly. The 358 track record is 17.36 while the SLM track record is 19.42.

Well, last night the SLMs were in the 20-second bracket, the winning 358 turned 22-second laps and the 410s usually are in the high 17s and low 18s. Don't forget, the cars have to lift or at least slow somewhat entering Williams Grove's corners while they seem to be able to flat-foot Selinsgrove's sweeping turns.

Nope world of outlaw late models can run whenever and where ever. I always thought super late model engines where bigger cubic inch wise than 410's so i assumed the cost might be more.

That's a good question. I've heard of SLM engines costing 50 grand before but I don't think too many local teams around here have those. It seems like you can be very competitive with a motor that cost half that. LM frames I believe are more expensive than sprint frames also. My guess is that the initial investment for a LM team and a 410 team would be close but the operating costs to maintain a SLM are far less, fewer rebuilds etc.

Gary Beward and Jeff Rine were the two I was thinking of. They both have 1,000+ hp hogs in their cars. The same guy built both their engines.

Hard to believe that the 358s were turning 22 second laps when sportsman run high 19 to mid 20s lap times, although thats on a tacky track, not sure about when it gets slick.

. No Rookie's info is outdated. My original post was correct.

I'm skeptical of those numbers. Those cars are powerful, but I'd have to see the dyno pull personally before I'd believe that. I'd be more apt to believe they are making between 800-850 hp.

Hmmmm. Not quite as skeptical as I once was. Certainly thinking outside the box to go back to a Big Block in a dirt late model.

...going big block or big cubic inch solves nothing when it comes to cost.

Over here in the land of big block modifieds...the top teams are spending 40-50g's for a top notch piece. Yes, it will last you all season with good maintenance and some luck, but consistently winning with a 20G big block against your big teams does not happen on a regular basis at most BB tracks.

For the biggest race of the year, Syracuse, it's a one off motor. If you want to win Syracuse, you need a Syracuse motor....and it ain't cheap either.

They have a cubic inch limit of 468, but no compression limit in NJ and NY. Down in Delaware, or the Slower Lower as we call it, they do not have a cubic inch limit..and those boys are running Hugh. G. Mongus mountain motors in the mods...I know of one that is 632 cubic inches, with most of them in the mid 500's. That's all well and fine..but their problem is keeping drivelines in them. The torque those motors make is outragous..never mind the HP they can make.

Every combination has good points and bad. BB's are a dinosaur of a motor...and becuase of their rarity in the racing world, offloading one if you want to is not easy. The value of BB's drops stupidly fast.
