Maynard's rookie year was in a white & purple #88 identical to Joey Gravino's #28. They changed the colors to the Gingerbread Man's green w/red and yellow in 78 or 79. When Maynard moved to the sprints, the car was sold and Rich Cannulli drove it. The Beams were just the sponsors of the 88 sprinter the first few years, I'm not sure who the owner was, but the Beams bought the team a few years later. Maynard retired from driving and went to work as crew chief on Don Larsen's funny car, and it was at a race when he was stricken by the anyeurism (sp.?). Ol' "Mange" was a character, still miss him.

just a couple things to add to stormchasers info, Maynard actually was crew cheif i think with Bruce Larson (probably what u meant to say) and they won a national championship in 89 with that funny car team. Even though he retired, he raced numerous sprint car races in the area off and on after goin with Bruce. I'm pretty sure it was 93 at Houston Raceway Park where he passed away, but i think he was with Chuck Etchells team at the time?Maynard and his brother Dave were from my area and growing up i used to see them stop into our local establishment to talk the nights racing and were really down to earth people! Alway's miss the 88!!
