Ah, I have been to every one of them. How about you. Last night was a goood night of racing for those who were there. Just because I go doesn't mean it makes economic sence for the track to keep holding an event that doesn't draw a profitable crowd. And don't blame it all on the weather for some reason these events don't draw big crowds at the sprint tracks. The locals don't attend in large numbers and the fans from other latemodel territory don't travel to them.

Great Job Matt Parks. Always awesome to see a local guy dominate when the big dogs are around. Some of the best local and regional talent there and matt kept his cool and ran an awesome race. Kudos to Austin. Never gave up. He definately tried everything his car would allow him. Dylan Yoder your awesome. Had a great run at the grove (only other show I made this week). In his heat race at Port was leading and Hubbard Passes him with 2 togo and last lap, last turn passes him back for the heat win. All of the people in the stands were on their feet cheering you on...and last but not least, Jamie Lathroum. He passed 225 cars last night to finish 5. (figure of speech). Had an awesome car. Early race spin sent him to the rear. came back to fourth and spins with 4 laps left. In the final 4 laps passed what seemed to be 8 cars to finish in the top 5 I believe. Congrats to everyone.

That's where a track like VA Motor Speedway has an interesting niche. They aren't really close for anybody (a minimum two-three hour tow from almost anywhere racers might be coming from), but they've got a terrific facility, and they are doing some neat stuff like their Commonwealth 100 where they play up the fact that they can draw from the "Three State Flyers" territory from the north and down into the Carolinas from the south, and make it a WoO LM show to boot. They play up the "North vs. South" angle with Civil War re-enactors, complete with an artillery piece. That thing makes one BIG boom!

That's one thing I think is missing in a lot of the shows in the MD/PA area. People are setting up shows and series that are good for the teams, but there isn't the promotion and "why should I as a fan care?" aspect being worked as hard as it needs to be. At most of these shows, if one were to remove family and friends of the racers from the stands, there'd not a be a whole lot of folks left. Nothing against family and friends, but good promotion also draws in people who have no other connection to the shows.

Wow, I thought maybe they had the wrong 15 when I saw the results this morning. Congrats to Matt Parks, that's great that a track regular took home the big check against some world class competition. That has to be the biggest win in his career. I would have loved to have been there but work has been really busy lately.

Port would have been better off racing Sat. and cancelling last night. I said last year that this show might as well be dropped and people laughed at me for it.

:cwm4: :cwm4: Your something else. Then I guess you and Brent would be saying the Late Model's were afraid of PR... :roflmao:

The attendance didn't have anything to do with that FIRST IMPRESSION you were talking about, HUH..I was at the Grove and thought they had a decent crowd for a Tuesday night, I heard Lincoln had a decent crowd for a Wednesday night. But yet, here we are again, poor ol' Port. Nobody supports Port and NOBODY knows why. Well, at least nobody knows why in Juniata County...

The latemodels raced. Decent car count 40 this year plus prostocks, I think close to 100 counting the limiteds last year just not enough fans. And I do think last nights attendance was affected somewhat by Sat. I'v heard enough to think the is blame for both sides for Sat. I wasn't there yet but from what I'v heard there were almost as many people at Port when they cancelled around 3:30 Sat as showed up last night. I said last year some northern tracks would be dropped from the latemodel speedweek And I would bet Selingrove won't be the last. Don't tell me Williamsgrove has had good crowds for this race every year. This year they added the 358's to boost attendance.

I follow late models just enough to know (I think) that there's some big late model shindig at Eldora. It used to be held the week after our late model speedweek but last year, Eldora moved it up a week. Most of the heavy hitters who weren't in contention to win the speedweek championship probably went there.
