If there are so many 358 car owners who can afford to run a 410, why aren't they? With there being fewer 410s and sometimes not even full fields, their chances of qualifying would be better.
My opinion they are waiting for the right time. Why move up and run mid/back of the field right now, when they can wait to see what shakes out in the near future. Remember Ed I was always told the 358 teams don't move up to 410's yet that myth has been dis proven long ago.
No Bill, I think your vision is clouded by what you feel is better racing TODAY, the heck with tomorrow.
That's funny because I just had a former 410 car owner tell me on the phone last week that I was 1 of the few on here that looks at the future and not just the right now.
I'm not a proponent of time trials at weekly shows, just treating all the cars fairly. After all, as I've said many times, whose fault is it that some cars are faster? Is it your fault that you can no doubt run faster than me? Or is it mine for being more overweight, older and arthritic than you?
I might beat you in a race, but I am quite certain we would have one heck of a hot dog eating contest.
I say give the so-called "little guys" a head-start and let them start up front in the heats. If they can stay there on an early track on which all cars can be fast, they start up front in the feature. If they can't, the ones that passed them in the heats start in front of them in the feature. If they weren't fast enough to stay in front for eight or ten laps, what makes you think they would be fast enough to stay there for 20 or 25 laps on a wider, more pass-friendly track?
Why not just adopt the ASCS rules? You draw for your starting spot in your heat race, then the cars who score the most cars in the heat race make the feature. It don't matter where you finish in your heat, if you score the most points then you make the feature.
Even batter take our Handicapping rules for the heat races and then use the ASCS passing points for the feature. It would not matter where you finish the heat as long as you where fast and passed cars, and the guys who start up front would not have an advantage over the top teams unless nobody passes in that heat race. That seems fair to everyone and would make the heat races mean something, unlike what I have seen in the TT shows I have been to this year.
