like i said carl billet is a great driver and he was the best at silversprings and is the best now at susky but thats just 2 tracks. knaub, armstrong, beard, and others are great at 3 or 4 different tracks all in one year so there is much to argue here haha

In Billet's defense, he's won quite a few more races than you might think. And not just in limited lates. He's got 46 wins in limiteds at susky, which is actually more races than any driver in any division has won at Susky. He's the career win leader for full late models at Clinton County with 38 there. He's got 57 at Silver Spring. Those are his biggest numbers, but he's also second on Lincoln's LLm list with 4, plus a full LM win at Lincoln. He's got seven full Lm wins at the Port, and I'm pretty sure there are a good handfull at Bedford too. In fact I've got him with a total of 52 full LM wins which is right up there with guys like Jeremy Miller, Kenny Slaybaugh, Larry Gorman and Jeff Rine.

Please bear with me for I just stumbled upon this thread. I have a few problems with what was posted.

First of all, I am the tech official for sprint cars, late models and street stocks at Williams Grove. No one approached me about any form of a protest or tear-down. The only other official who could have become involved in any such action is Bobby Waters; he, Justin Loh and Alan Kreitzer were in the office with me when I finished checking the three late models and the only related conversation was about sending a fuel sample from the 81s out for laboratory testing. Finally, the 81s was loaded up and on its way out of the pit area when I finished checking the last of the three late model I checked. Accordingly, I would like to know who the official was who spoke with Mr. Knaub and the 81s car owner because, as I said, no one spoke to me and Bobby was with me when I got the fuel sample for testing out of the 81s trailer, which stopped on its way out to give it to me. At that point, Bobby and I went to the office.

Next, I'd like to address this idea of a random draw of finishing positions to be "torn down." If you finish 8th, let's say, and won a few hundred dollars, how would you like to spend that much and more complying with a tear-down? How many times of doing that would it take to drive you away from Williams Grove Speedway? One time at a high-paying 410 show at Lincoln, I was asked by track management to pump - just pump, not "tear down" - the car that passed the most cars in the feature along with the winner. That was the 13th-place car and they were very upset about it. The only cost was a rocker cover gasket, if they even replaced it, but they were livid and called the track the next week to complain. Some of you people need to think about the car owners once in a while.

I'm just beginning to settle in and feel comfortable around late models and plan to implement the same procedure I use with the 410s. At the start of the evening, before a competitive lap is turned, I tell the tower which car in the top five finishing positions I will tech along with the winner. That way, I can't show any favoritism even if I wanted to and no team can say they are being singled out or picked on. At last week's Mitch Smith Memorial, I teched the top three. Last Saturday's late model show paid a little extra, so I did those three as well.

I apologize if something transpired in the pit area that I was and am not aware of but there are several defects in the original posters statements. 1)The time limit for filing a protest had expired (I note the time when the winner crosses under the checkers). 2) The correct official was not notified, either by the protesting party or the official to whom the protest was verbally presented. 3)A written protest was never filed along with the cash fee. 4)The fee stated is incorrect.

Again, if I'm missing something, please straighten me out.

Ed

I think what you missed is that this post started in August of 2008!

I for one do like the fact that teching is going to be done at a random finish, I also do know that on slick tricks motor isn't everything, sometimes less is better and set-up will show up must everytime but when a car has trouble going through the turns and gets passed and they drive back pass you man that looks every questionable at times. So for this I'm all for the track policing THERE RULES so as to let the playing field as fair as possible. I welcome TECHING Thank You.
