MECHANICSBURG, PA--The World of Outlaws sanctioned Summer Nationals for sprint cars will be presented on Friday and Saturday evenings, July 22-23, at Williams Grove Speedway.

Qualifying is scheduled to begin at 7:30 each night.

Friday night’s program will also feature the inaugural running of a bonus race for the Morgan Cup and bragging rites for either the World of Outlaws or the Williams Grove regulars known as the Pennsylvania Posse.

Drivers scheduled to represent the Outlaws include defending series champion Jason Meyers of Clovis, CA, along with Bartlett, TN’s Jason Sides and Nashville’s Paul McMahan, Donny Schatz of Fargo, ND, and Kraig Kinser of Bloomington, IN.

Posse members eligible to represent Williams Grove Speedway include 5-time track champion Lance Dewease, Stevie Smith, Brian Montieth, Daryn Pittman and defending Lawrence Chevrolet champion Greg Hodnett.

The 12-lap race for the Morgan Cup named in memory of the late track owner Morgan Hughes will be run following Friday night’s 25-lap World of Outlaws feature event.

Posse members have won ten of the last eleven races in sprint car racing’s most heated rivalry, which has been raging at the Grove for more than 30 years. Ex-Outlaw Daryn Pittman in a car owned by Allentown’s Michael Heffner won the only previous WoO race of the season at Williams Grove on May 14. New Oxford’s Brian Leppo finished second and completed a 1-2 sweep for the Posse.

On Saturday night from 5:30 until 6:00 former World of Outlaws champions Steve Kinser and Donny Schatz will be signing autographs at the Lawrence Chevrolet display in the infield.

Saturday night’s Summer Nationals finale will be worth $20,000 to win.

Following this week’s racing the Outlaws will return to Williams Grove for the National Open on October 30 and September 1.

Wonder how many cautions Kraig will be good for in this event?

Unless they found the water truck, look for the Outlaws to dominate all racing action this weekend.

For this race I'm gonna go with person that starts on the front row and can hit the bottom first bc they won't have a track for the feature or the cup race and I'd hate to be there sat night bc if they can't get a good track for the sportsmans on a reg sat night I don't wanna see how dry the track will be this sat. Either way GO POSSE!!!!

is sammy still not invited to particiapte? i think you gotta include the open winner regardless of affiliation. could be swindell, one of the guys from down under, an all star like blaney or a guy that runs a local dirt track in ohio. some years you'd have 6 cars and some years 7. then if a non posse/ non outlaw ends up winning the cup challenge he has to decide which office to display the trophy in, becoming posse or outlaw for the day. i mean if an outsider beats you twice you gotta give him props

I'll disagree. This is Posse vs Outlaws. Not Posse vs. Ohio vs. Outlaws vs. Non-Outlaws vs All-Stars. If you want that, go to Nationals.

so the non posse / non outlaw guys should just stay out of the way then and not leave their shops? since every driver has to purchase a $100 woo license to race even if it's one night (found that out at the Open last year) isn't everyone technically an outlaw for the sanctioned races?

and using sammy as an example why wouldn't he qualify as an outlaw. in 2010 he finished 16th in series points per the outlaw website. he had 4 wins which was 4 more than 10 other drivers in the top 20 and more than 13 of the top 20 but the woo don't want him cause he's not vanilla enough

and i'd bet that if he wins an outlaw race at the grove and in victory lane ripped the woo decal off his wing and said "screw the outlaws, i'm moving to PA" the place would go nuts and everyone would claim him as posse.

and then the old story of who's who and whom gets to say who's who? and no it's not Horton. trust me i'm posse all the way and i say sammy's posse. there! i said it! that should put him in the field for the morgan cup.

as long as someones beating the chosen few i wouldn't care if it was "insert my least favorite drivers name here" if the regular posse can't get it done then you gotta root for the outlaw renegades and i'm sure sammy aint the only one.

No, just because drivers aren't labeled doesn't mean they shouldn't leave their shops. And it didn't stop the likes of David Gravel, Tim Shaffer, Danny Holtgraver and others from showing up.

Why wouldn't Sammy qualify as an Outlaw? Easy, he didn't follow the whole circuit. The WoO tour requires you to attend every WoO sanctioned event. He didn't.

I don't even understand this paragraph.

Once again, a little confused but I think I see what you're trying to say. The term Posse usually is referring to drivers that race mainly in Central PA, adopted or not. At least that's how the WoO viewed it when creating the Morgan Cup, that's why they included Pittman on the Posse team.

Yeah, why not. If Schatz is winning and Kasey Kahne is 2nd, the majority of the fans are going to root for Kasey to take the lead.

The real "outlaws" are the guys like Pittman and Walker who race where they want to race, when they want to race.

You have to be Posse OR Outlaw to participate, no where in between...Sammy wasn't either & even said it in Victory Lane.

 I was just thinking  , why is this race so important, and only 12 laps?
:poking: You mean to tell me, a driver is going to win a 1/2 of a feature race and get bragging right's
for a year. We might lose a 12 lap race to give the WOO the benefit of the Morgan Cup for a year. :cwm4:
:dontknow: what does everyone else think?
